Paxton 1220SL
Hey guys, seriously considering a CT supercharger. I'm in California and I like the fact that it is carb legal. Also, the customer service I've been getting from them has been great. they have responded quickly to all of my e-mails and been very helpful. My big concern right now is this self lubricating unit they include in the kit, the 1220SL. I've seen so many posts on this forum where people are suggesting an upgrade to the 1200 unit. I don't want to buy a brand new supercharger just to end up needing an upgrade. I'm wondering if this is a case of a few people having problems making all the noise while the satisfied customers are silently enjoying their superchargers. Will anybody with the self lubricating supercharger stand up for it? Let me know!
Thanks!
Thanks!
The SL units have their benefits and drawbacks. I have a V3 kit from Vortech which is an SL system. My buddy has novi1200 system from Ct Engineering(comptech). He bugs me telling me that I can't monitor the superchargers oil temp when I'm monitoring the engine oil temp since both systems are separate, that's the only thing he doesn't like about my kit. I reply that its harder for him to make the same boost that I am making since Ct uses a smaller pulley and crank pulley than Vortech to make the same boost. Smaller pulley, less surface for the belt to grab onto which makes it more chance of belt slip when you're into the double digit psi numbers(12 psi+).
Also, lots of people had problems with their blowers when the SL kits first came out. Oil would overheat and grenade the blower internally. But its been years since that and I figure the companies fixed the issue since I spoke to several SL owners before I bought the kit and they weren't having anymore issues with the newer kits.
