Default Pics from my motor

Just got the car back and motor the other day. I now have to re-assemble the whole thing, yet again, lol. I promised pics forever ago, here you go.

*Quick back story*

After I lost cyl 1, I left the car at the shop since it's 2.5 hrs away from me, they pulled the motor, and sent it off to be machined, it came back 2 weeks ago, I was finally able to go get it this past Friday. I didn't get pics of the cylinder, as it was already machined, but here is the piston.

*/Quick back story*

Piston 1 was the only one damaged, the rest showed a good burn, and no heat, so the meth/water was doing it's job just fine. However for some reason it wasn't equal to #1 and it shows. I'm not going to continue this route, as I don't have the $$ to refine it. I still beleive for a small whp, the setup I had would be fantastic, but that wasn't my goal. I'll add a pump or 2 and make my number on race gas (c16)

I am going to test the methanol system to see if I can figure out the cause for the heck of it before I sell it. FYI: I don't want this to turn into a bashing methanol post, please keep the comments on point.

Just for laughs, here is the motor/accessories in the back of my truck, lol.

Picture of a random piston for comparison.

The damage.

I've had it bored out to 88mm, the scratches weren't that deep, and the head is ok. Have new CP's ready to drop in, 9.6.1, raising it from 9.0.1, now I just have to pickup new bearings, and a new oil pump. It seems to drag a little, so I'm assuming it's got metal in it, so I figure better be safe than sorry and swap it out or rebuild it, haven't looked into it yet.

Question...I have a cometic 88mm headgasket already, it says it's for the 00-03 ap1, is there any different in the headgaskets between the ap1 and ap2's? I know the head's are interchangable, just curious why it said that on the sticker. Want to make sure I have the right one.

It is the same part numper for OEM ones between AP1 and AP2 so i can not see the reason why the cosmetic should be different.

Good luck also with your rebuild

Thanks guys.

I've never seen a piston melt from the side like that, pretty wicked.

Wow, that piston saw a lot of heat; I'm surprised it didn't take more material out of your bore! I'd have a look on your exhaust valves and exhaust wheel to see where all that metal went after it melted! It's pretty easy to check for clearances on the oil pump, especially if you've put together the motor. Hope your build goes well and you can enjoy the car this summer!
