Default pissed off at Precision

I recently had my PTE 5857 billet rebuilt by Precision under warranty.

My center section/compressor side was able to wiggle around while bolted to the turbine side. They told me the plates that hold it together had warped. And also that there was some oil contamination.

So they supposedly rebuilt the whole thing & sent back to me. We put back on my car on Tuesday, everything seemed fine for a few hours. Then I started getting some blue smoke out the exhaust after boosting while at idle. I pulled the plugs, compression #'s are perfect still, no oil on the plugs. Go for another drive and when it starts smoking again I check the turbo & you can see smoke coming out of the center section!

****** bullshit.. Gonna have to pull it again now.

My oil return is perfect, no kinks, goes to the girdle. Feed line is -4an as recommended by Precision. There is no oil at the intake pipe.

Has anyone had a bad run with this company? I dont want my same POS turbo repaired, want them to send me a brand new one.
What should I tell them to make this happen?

thanks

Sorry man, that really sucks. I have seen other members have similar problems.

I was really looking forward to you getting this up and running. They make good BB turbos I would not get a journal though. I would lean on the seller to get this fixed for you ASAP or a refund. I hope you bought it from a reputable dealer. Maybe you could get a BB unit? I feel bad for you. FYI I had my share of problems as well your not alone.

I think I know what the problem is, I had this happen to me. Precision DOES NOT tighten up any of the bolts on the turbo (they do this incase you need to clock something, although these 4 bolts i'm going to tell you about arent there for clocking anything) and you need to tighten or at least check all the bolts before installing the turbo.

Anyway, I'm betting that the 4 little bolts that hold the compressor housing to the center section are all loose like they were on mine. Get them tightened before you run it or you will burn the turbo up.

Before we get pissed off at anyone lets look at what you have. Ok you have a good drain. Where does it drain to? What size is it? What are you doing for crankcase ventilation? What size oil feed line do you have? Has it been blocked, kinked,or draped over an exhaust manifold anywhere?

I have seen it all and this is just a small list of what people do to their turbos and then blame the turbo.

When you drop something heavy on your foot and it hurts do you blame your foot?

Also, -4 is just too big of a feed for these JB turbo's on our car. The -3 would be a lot better and the ID on -3 is about .100" as apposed to the -4, which is a lot bigger, I just dont remember what the ID really is.

Dont listen to Precision on the -4 feed. They dont know that much about the S and its high oil pressure like we do. -3 is definitely what you want to use. I'm willing to bet money that your problem was the same as mine though. Those 4 bolts are more than likely loose and need tightened. As soon as I tightened mine, the problem was gone. I'm just glad I found it early.

The drain is a -10an, goes to girdle, its perfect

Ill give the -3an feed a try, but I have had the -4 on there since last August with no issues

Also gonna check those bolts you mentioned tomorrow, but with my luck ill bet they are tight & the turbo is toast.

Im usually not quick to point fingers, but when a rebuilt turbo goes back on a working setup that has been good for almost a year, chances are its the turbo.

Yes I purchased from a reputable dealer, they have always helped me out. Precisions rebuild time is usually 2 weeks & my guy was able to push them for a 1 day turn around time.

Id prefer to stick with the same model if possible, making another trip out to Evans for a retune is not going to be easy right now.

Thanks for the support bro
