Journal bearing sucks?
Where did you hear that? Journal bearing is used by
either commercial, industrial and hi-performance application for many many years.
Still used today 100% by industrial/commercial & will be here forever.

My guess is, you did not give the turbo a chance to run a few hundred miles (break-in period).
YOu probably max the boost while the bearing was tight and new.

Not saying JB sucks, just the service..

Yeah I did go right out and hit 12psi after reinstalling, they didn't tell me I had to break it in for any specific mileage.

i had them rebuild a turbo for me too a couple of years ago. the first time they 'rebuilt' it they did nothing. i put it on the car and it smoked excessively. it took them 2 tries.

precision doesn't get my vote.

Dont listen to Precision on the -4 feed. They dont know that much about the S and its high oil pressure like we do. -3 is definitely what you want to use. I'm willing to bet money that your problem was the same as mine though. Those 4 bolts are more than likely loose and need tightened. As soon as I tightened mine, the problem was gone. I'm just glad I found it early.
...proof of awful customer support. if this guy knows more about common precision errors than precision does, i dont want to deal with them. (no offense to Spoolin, just making a point! )

Not all new bearing installation are the same. They have different tolerances. Some bearing are within spec some a bit over and under. Nothing different than using plastigage during a bearing installation.

Noneless, break-in period will not hurt you but helps the bearing to seat properly...for longevity.

Do it to a virgin and she will complain!

If they would have told me that I would have broke in for 1000 miles just to be safe.

Im gonna call them on Tuesday, I want to check all the things you guys mentioned after work so I don't sound like an ass on the phone.

like spoolin said, -4 is way to big of a feed on a journal bearing turbo on the F20/22, i would run a -3 and see what happens, if it still smokes you can always try a .065" restrictor as well

-10 is pretty much the standard, but "bigger is better" is the mentality for the oil return, you want the oil to leave the turbo as fast as possible

I've been running a -8 return for a long time but a -10 would be better. It's worked out fine with my setup but I may switch to a -10 if anything negative happens to the turbo. Id say the minimum you should run would be a -8 "IF" you have the drain in the girdle or another better location with perfect flow. Otherwise, always use at least a -10.

Good call on the oil restrictor,
Deltas2k had an extra one with the .065 opening, we threw that on and have not had any smoke since.
