Man, there's a few nuts and bolts missing. Iget up to like %80 done with each task (FMU - missing hoses, mounting blower - missing bolts, etc.) and then something stops me. Irritating. Its goin good tho.

Ite fellaz, here's the update. Well, its 2:35 a.m. on Monday morning and I just got home. The install was pretty fun and educational...but the usual drawbacks and time consuming trips to the hardware stores sucked. Well, after the checking everything and double and triple checking everything, it all looked great.

First major mess up.....the brass fitting thats SUPPOSED to go under the plastic tubing between the air filter and the blower....I didnt read the instructions thoroughly enough and mistook that for the fitting that's supposed to go into the oil pan. SO I tapped and threaded that into the oil pan....sucky. (I'll pay for this later) I even saw the hose with the elbow in it and was frustrated that I had no idea where it went. I went to route the oil return line and found it quite difficult to find room to run the hose since the fitting is facing straight forward with little room in front of it. I managed to route it around the front axle and onto it. I guess teh guy kept the fitting on the oil pan..ON the oil pan. A BIT of a dip near the pan but its continuous flow so I figure there's not too much to worry about. (PLEASE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG) So that worked out ok, not the way I wanted cuz I want things the proper way....just anal when it comes to peice of mind I suppose. So Im left no nothing connecting the tube from the valve cover to the intake piping. Im also missing the air injector filter.

Next major problem was the previous owner had a VAFCII and he had the frog harness and it was pretty clean, had the proper clips and everything. I didnt want the VAFC so he just cut the splices so instead of spending hours splicing wires, the harness was just a mock set of clips sitting in-line between the ECU and regular clips, pretty clean.

So the big finale......

I start the car.............err....TRY to start the car....it turns over but BANG!!! Backfires....scares the living shit out of me. Worry sets in. I crank it again.....and again....and again....she's tryin. Turns over, fuel pump activates...everything runs...nothing. Weak battery. So I charge it up a bit, wait, and wait. I try to start it again and bam, she's on.....putt putt putt putt....dead. Damn!! WTF is wrong!? CHeck the steps....fuel, air, and spark...all signs present. We're figuring since it turns over and starts and sounds fine while Im on the throttle bringing up the idle a bit, that its all mechanically sound. Tried resetting the ECU by taking out the backup fuse. Mabe it'll learn to set the proper idle and recalibrate everything. NOPE. Did some searches on the forum and ran into some topics bout bad black boxes. My friend suggest trying that. Unclipped the frog harness and returned the OEM ECU clips back into place. Fires RIGHT UP!

Now on my way home, it sounds DOPE!!.....but.....at about half throttle, it bogs....up to that point, acceleration is NICE, but past the halfway point, it bogs...and as I release the pedal, it "clears up".

WHAT GIVES!!? Problem with the black box?? Stock ECU sees the presence of boost and wont allow it?? Cuz the black box isnt there to coax it and say its ok?? Should I check continuity through each of the frog harness wires?? How much is it for a new black box?? Any way to diagnose the box?

HELP!!

I had a problem with the timing box, I tried wiring it lots of times (car wouldnt start) and I bought another one from this forum used. Put the new one in and started up no problem. Are you driving it with the map clamp hooked up? I have an extra map clamp box that you can have (if that's what is wrong) and I also have a believed to be faulty black timing box that you could give a try. My guess is that if you are getting a BANG that the timing is off and it is the timing black box. I did have software from split second that allows the setting of the black box to be set back to it's default settings, but I can't seem to find it.

Timing box?? Map clamp?? You're confusing me, haha. Ok, The black box is the fuel controller right?? As of right now, the black box is not being used. Its in my passenger seat. All the wiring all stock. Yeah, if you could find the split second software, that would be great. I just called Vortech and he said its probably the black box if the wiring is all correct. I'll post up pics of the wiring clips when I can. They said its $980 for a new black box......DAYAM!! If that's the case, looks like I'll be goin EMS. Carguy, could you elaborate/explain what the map clamp and the timing box and the black box are?? Or are they all the same thing?? Thanks. You're the ONLY one helping me. Kind of messed up out of everyone in this FI forum, that no one else can even make a comment to help. O well. I really appreciate all your help. Hopefully I can get it all figured out and save myself +$1000 for EMS and tuning, etc.

Oh, wait, the map clamp....like the smaller box right?? Yeah, that's on. I have no idea whether one or both of the boxes are faulty or working. I dont know.
