Default Problems with Vortech

Hello,

Just installed the supercharger and having problems with her. To me these seem minor.

1) Huge vibration while shifting @ high RPMs (felt through the shifter)
2) Momentary loss of power steering when car is first started up
3) Endless blow off of BOV while crusing @ 70mph

Thanks for the help

-Carlo

1. This "might" be normal as it's been noted that the simple act of bolting a supercharger onto the front of this engine changes the harmonics considerably and much additional vibration comes through the stick even when just cruising around. However, since we can't be there to experience your car, it's not possible to say if yours is within the "normal" range.

2. This is odd. How do you determine this? Are you moving the car when turning the wheel? Sitting still immediately after a cold start may not be a good indication that your power steering is gone.

3. This is not right if your description is correct. At steady state cruising with the throttle held at partial opening as you would during such driving, the BOV should not be releasing (venting).

Actually that's normal operation for the bov on a supercharger. At 70mph you're running around 400rpm, which means on a stock vortech you are making around 3-4psi of boost. Because you are not at WOT and are holding a constant throttle position that reads vacuum on the gauge, the 3-4psi is not required by the engine and is therefore vented. If you went WOT the bov would (should) close and feed the boost to the engine.

As for the other two...I dunno.

I just learned something new today.
Carlo must have super hearing. When I'm cruising on the highway, I can't hear this thing venting.

LOL if you want to hear it, take the car up to 7000 rpm then hold it there for a few seconds...sounds like a jet engine.

Well Dave ... I have the Amuse Style CF Hood and the vent is right above the BOV

Sideways: The vibration is during shifting @ high RPMs. There is someone local to me with a Vortech on his car. I'll have him take mine out for a spin and get his opinion on it.

As far as the power steering. I only questioned it because someone local to me as a vortech as well, and it doesn't have this symptom. It seriously doesn't have power steering till I drive a good 1 minute. I also had it warm up before I took it out. Same thing. It's wierd.

Again, I'll have a fellow member drive my car to get his view on this.

Thanks for the help so far and will update this thread when neccessary

hehe, aka "direct pipeline" to engine noise.
(The younger crowd would consider this a GOOD thing. )

not to jack your thread. this just reminded me of a cool story, this will prob make you smile.
a friend has a wicked z06. stroker ls2, with ATi procharger kit. the BOV is on the piping which is just in front of the driver side front wheel. he put down 741 rwhp. and has thrown a bunch of belts. he is making so much boost, at idle, with the BOV open (normal operation) when he putts down the road, or pulls into a parking lot where we are all chillin, it literally sweeps the road in front of him, with this bitchin cloud of dust blowing up in front of the car. and massive air rushing sound, as soon as he stomps it, its over, the car goes from sexy, to WTF, is that it.. that spec off in the distance, oh yeah, i see the 12 inch wide black marks all the way to where he is. LOL. its so sick. this BOV story reminded me. later dave
