PTUNING S2000 Turbo System (Pics, Dyno, Pricing)
I have a problem with a company touting their kit as the end all be all, when an almost identical kit was produced 2.5 years ago. The only difference I see is that it uses twin scroll and doesn't provide as high grade of solutions to certain features (i.e. using stock heatshield, only providing an engine mount heat shield instead of a replacement, etc.).
I like companies coming out with new and exciting parts for the s2000. But this is clearly just a "me too" kit.
Doesn't matter if I own an s2000 or not. I support my local businesses that come out with original parts for the s2000.

As others said, there are only so many places to put a turbo in the engine bay and I'd hardly call this a copy. To add, I don't know of too many other "kits" that were actually tested on a track and (might eventually since it's not released) come with a track tested V-mount option. That sounds like anything but a copy.
Ok we heard you loud and clear. The SOS kit looks great. The P tuning offering is a great kit that has also been track tested by metros. They both have pros and cons I'm sure. I don't care what you guys think about the oil scavenge pump, mine has worked perfect from day one, no issues. I guess even if it didn't work the oil still goes to the bottom of the pan anyway. SOS have proof this doesn't seem to be an issue.

s2000442,
All I was saying was that it's not a copy. I agree there are still questions to be answered by SOS and the ptuning kit certainly is a very good kit. Not taking anything away from Ptuning.. just nice to see another option.

I don't have a problem with using the same turbo placement. Like others said Greddy used that placement first. PTuning differentiated themselves from the greddy kit by not using a log style manifold, replacing the motor mount to avoid heat and using water cooled turbos in their kit.
I don't like the fact that SOS tried to advertise this kit as doing something that no other kit for the s2000 has done. The only thing this kit has that no other kit has is twin scroll. Otherwise it is extremely similar to PTuning's kit. The track version (which hasn't been released by SOS) does offer a new cool feature of V-mount that hasn't been offered by a kit yet.
The PTuning kit offers: fast spool, trackability out of the box, great horsepower numbers, turbo options for specific power goals, high quality manifold, no need to cut body/reposition fuse box/battery, and offers a better solution for the engine mount.
SOS has not addressed concerns with oil backing up, oil temperatures on track, and engine mount protection.

They already said there is no oil backup issue. With water cooled turbos oil heat isn't as big of an issue since oil is for lubrication only and not cooling. The kit includes an engine mount and heat sheild. There is nothing very innovative about either kit. They simply include features every fabricator tries to include when producing custom turbo kits. Quality, ease of installation, factory fit and finish, reliability, efficient and functional. Both have done an excellent job and exceeded where others have not.
I think the main design aspect that Metros may be referring to most is building a custom passenger side engine mount to allow their turbo to sit lower. Granted their approach to this is less extreme than ours. This crucial aspect of our no holds barred, out of the box thinking is what allowed us to create a turbo system that doesn't require any cutting, has proper heat shielding, excellent response, and is ALSO track proven. We didn't patent the use of a modified motor mount, but we sure came up with the idea first. Either way though, it's not a big deal to us as their are many differences between the two setups. If the kit is being offered as a new offering, then there is nothing wrong with that. However, if it's being touted as a better version of ours, then I'd say have to say wait a minute here LOL.
Our downpipe is the straightest 3" downpipe on the market. Our manifold has a true merge collector with exhaust runners that are all within 5/8" of each other. These design aspects give our turbo system excellent spool-up, transient response, and overall efficiency for big power.
Our use of a Tial V-Band housing ensures no exhaust leaks and gives you the lightest turbo assembly on the market. For owners of our current PTUNING Turbo System, I can assure you that there is no reason for buyer's remorse. I'm confident that we'll make more power on the same car, at the same boost, with the same turbo, on the same fuel, and still have the same overall turbo response.
Below is some food for thought. Again guys, this is a free market, so kudos for more choices. We'll choose to point out what makes our system good rather than point out alleged faults with other kits.
True merge collector, straight shot downpipe, long divorced runner WG tube with narrow angle merge and a DTA dump tube option.

Best turbo response of any big power turbo system on the market. Comparison of our GT3076R vs the quickest spooling Greddy turbo system. Both tuned on 93 pump. Look at the torque difference from off idle to 3.5K rpms. BTW, note that these are non-corrected Dyno Dynamics numbers and not Dynojet or Dynapak numbers. We've tuned AP2's as high as 460whp on 93 pump gas with a GTX3076R

BTW, this is Toan. I had issues logging on to the other account so I'm using Ken's account to reply.

Greddy was not first and is possibly the worst example of a S2000 turbo kit. Weld-bend log manifolds with the turbo mounted low date back to the beginning and may have been the first. There were a few other kits in the beginning including the Turbonetics and Inline Pro log cast manifolds, but the Full Race kit is the first reputable kit I remember with a tubular manifold that wasn't complete junk. It's still one of the highest performing out there.
Lovefab was a player with a couple of different manifolds including one very similar to PTuning (the mini-ram).
A-Spec made a twin scroll manifold with the mounting location similar to SOS. They also used a v-mount intercooler as a base. If I remember correctly, AFI offered v-mount too and Lovefab may have as well.
What PTuning did best/first was designing/engineering everything needed to make a high-quality, high-performance kit completely bolt-on for the average shadetree mechanic, fabricating it, testing it, and then putting it all in one reliable, easy to install package. They also seemed to spend a lot of time researching the downfalls of previous kits so they could avoid them via smarter design.
In other words, you can't look at a kit and say it's a clone of previous kits. That's rarely true. The location of the turbo may be similar, but there are limited places to put one. I've had two top-mount equal length tubular manifolds in a row, and they couldn't be more different from one another. In the end, the best news is that the S2000 has a ton of awesome turbo kits on the market that should suit almost every need.
