Default puddymod or ford 8.8

As the title states puddymod stage 2 diff or full blown 8.8 rear end? I realize that is comparing apple's to oranges, but for my 600rwhp goals are leaning more towards the puddymod stage 2 rated for 450hp+ I am thinking 8.8 would be a tad bit over kill for my power. If I was in the 850hp + range I wouldn't think twice to snatch a Ford cobra rear and slap it on my s2ks booty. I definitely don't wanna do no short cuts neither. Puddymod = $1,600 full blown 8.8 = $3,500 decisions decisions. After my decision I have another headache decision to make.. G force? V160? Ppg dog gears? or save thousands and wait til I explode my stock trans smh...

How often do you drive the car? Just on the street? I say puddymod and stock trans and have an extra waiting in the garage.

Twice a month if I'm lucky. I come from a family that are drag addicts! Will definitely hit the drag strip 3 times a year (I live walking distance from fontana speedway) I have my slicks and sitting in my garage waiting to be swapped on, but scared to because as soon as the tree hits green it bye bye to my diff boooom! What is the point of having over 500 hp honda if we can't let the ponies run free on the strip. Smh... I should have built a supra

I'm doing the Puddymod stage 4, with less horsepower. would honestly consult Ben (Puddymod) before making any fast moves. He's incredibly knowledgeable, and first rate service.

I'm shooting for 600whp and just installed Ben's stage 2 diff. I bleeding the OEM in half at 405whp but it was from wheel hop. I think it will hold well if you launch right.

I'd worry more about the trans honestly. Especially with slicks.

wouldnt the rear break before the tranny especially if hes launching off of a 2 step? op i went the 8.8 route and never looked back. ive been looking to see if there was cheaper ways to do the 8.8 diff im not 100 percent sure but u can check it out..the ford explorer 8.8 appears to have the same mounting tabs on the cover as the s2k not sure if its the same exact length or if it places the diff in the same exact position but its worth a shot especially if it wont cost u an arm and a leg. i believe all u would need is the cover not the entire diff

Interesting. So you've been @405whp using your oem diff without breaking?

Yeah. Mind you I was supercharged. I don't beat on but don't baby it either. I think it would still be fine if I didn't get real bad wheel hop at the strip. I tried to power through it and boom. If I would of let off I think it would of been fine.
