HA! i pull mine in one swoop thanks to my removable cross-member!

without it, its pretty much impossible without a lift and dropping the powerplant/subframe as a whole.

but yes, with a piece like mine:

it is easily done and saves a TON of time.

the only way to pull them together is to drop the front subframe and pull the engine/trans out the bottom.

IMHO this is by far the easiest way to do it.

by myself i can have the swap on the ground in 4 hrs.

I use the engine lift to lower it all to the ground, then hook the engine lift to the car, pick the front of the car up high enough to slide every thing out. All you have to unhook as far as the suspension goes is the lower ball joints, lower shock mount, tie rods and where the sway bar bolts to the frame (leave it attached to the control arms.)

The wiring harnes is really easy to pull out of the cabin by the clutch master.. just leave it attached to the engine.

invest in a few movers dollies to make it easy to slide out, and make sure to mark the steering shaft/rack so you can put it back together right.

When i did it we just tilted it back and slid it out while it was on jacks. it was a huge PITA though.

I can gurantee it won't come out the top w/the tranny attached w/the factory crossmember in place, lol.

It will if I take my angle grinder to the factory cross member . It sucks how she dont come out all together through the top, subframe dropage is in order. Im so excited about this whole build hopefully only minimal unforscene mishaps will happen along the way although its gunna be a blast

we pulled my motor & trans together on my first swap, the second swap we removed the head first.. It can be done either way, much easier with the head off IMO

Pulled from above, did not drop subframe. With the head off it was easier to push down on the trans & try and get it almost vertical as it came out.

When we put in the new motor it went in from the top, then we lowered the subframe, jacked the car real high & put the trans in from below.

There seems to be several ways to do a swap, this wasnt too bad IMO. If I ever do another I will try dropping the engine/trans on the subframe & sliding out as others have mentioned.
