My engine was qouted at $8k, and I didn't even have head work, I can see $12k, especially if you consider labor to put it in.

Then again I'm guessing most of us do our own work.

[QUOTE=D1sclaimer,May 6 2010, 09:49 AM] IMO get tuned on the crappiest gas you think you'll possibly get.

Different states and different stations carry different octane rated gas. In Kansas City I know of multiple places that carry 92 or 93. But I have heard of stations in California that carry 100 octane race gas at the pump, that would be real nice to have.
Cali may have some stations w/ race gas but at the pump 91 R+M/2 is the highest.

When folks say 92 or 93 are you talking about R+M/2 or just the RON rating or MON rating?

Legally prem and reg are to be segregated and they cannot intermingle grades. If the tanker guy biffs and it blows your motor you can sue the gas station, tanker company. It's been done before in cali. Someone biffed real bad and put some diesel into a regular tank and engines grenaded. Of course if your motor blows you have to make sure to go back to the station and tell them along with contacting the parent company (ie shell, chevron, BP, etc) so they can send someone down to check if the tank was contaminated.

Somebody posted a link earlier up with the stations that carry 100 octane at the pump.

I am not sure what RON or MON rating is but I always see it as R+M/2

Certain 76 (conoco Phillips) stations here in CA have 100 at the pump... That stuff just sits and sits though cause nobody really buys it, and at 9 dollars a gallon I see why.

How long do you think that 100 octane sits there? I'm always afraid that it's been sitting for months so I just buy the canned versions instead.

Just because you have a bad tank, doesn't guarantee you'll grenade your motor. First of all, your knock sensor will tell you something is wrong with your car. You limp home, and siphon out the gas. I always ALWAYS watch (if it's full service) to make sure they are pumping the correct gas. Don't just yell "fill it up super" and walk into the mini mart. Make SURE they are pumping the correct gas.

If you buy race gas at a local race track, then I would assume it wouldn't sit nearly as long as from a regular gas station.
