Default Putting in a 6-point rollcage/ 5 - pt harness

So, I love to drive the car on the street, however the past 6 months the only time I drive the car is to the track and back. It's not so much that Q16 is rediculously expesnive, it's just I dont have the desire to drive the car in traffic and I have (to my surprise, never thought this would happen)have no desire to F--- around too much on the street as a lot can go wrong quickly with such a light car and a lot of HP. I do like to take it out on an early staurday or sunday to home depot or something but thats it. Anyway, with the birth of my new baby girl and the wife not exactly thrilled I drag race it, I have decided to play it safe and have EVANS weld me a 6-point cage, as well as a racing seat and 5-point harness. (also putting in an R200 w/3.90 gears

The concern I have is even though I dont really drive the car, it will be pretty muvh dedicated to track with maybe an occasional early morning drive on the street. For the guys who have done it, did you regret moving the factory roll hoops, rear convertible tray etc........ I will also be removing the passenger seat as well. Just kinda wondering if anyone who has done it has regretted it.

I started to think about this when I almost slammed into the wall at ATCO at 80mph with just a helmet... I am thinking if I do hit something at those speeds I have a much better chance of walking away with proper gear. No disrepsect to the guys who run 8's and 9's with "full weight cars" and no roll cages but I just wouldnt feel comfortable.

I know this might seem like overkill for an 11 second car, but witht he diff and a transmission solution during the winter, I hope to be in the 10s with any luck

i put in a safety 21 cage in 5 hours with my dad. but i didnt have to remove anything then again its not a complete welded cage like yours. no regrets with that so far. the R200 diff kit was pretty difficult to install but then again i was doing it on my garage floor. but soooooo worth it

Congrats, Joey! I plan on going the same route (6pt on an occasionally street driven track car).

I have a 5 point that I welded into my car this year but I have not had a chance to paint it and cut the plastic to my liking exactly yet. I will post pics up of it all done.

Hmm are you going to remove your door panels and possibly gut your doors to fit side bars? The S2k interior is so tight, that I’m guessing not much of a side bar can fit (if any) with a racing seat and door panel in place. The side bars would probably be the most inconvenient part of a full roll cage more than anything, especially if you plan to drive it on the streets on occasion. Then again, if you plan to street it once in a while, not sure you’d consider gutting the doors.

So then, if you plan to do a cage without side protection, then I don’t foresee much inconvenience at all, especially if the forward legs go through the dash to keep all the leg room you can. And as far as regretting it, I’m not sure anyone regrets safety mods, especially if they had to use them in an accident!! Haha

But this is all coming from someone who hasn’t owned a fully caged s2k. just thought I’d throw in my .02

I mostly agree, Chris. Door bars aren't required to be straight, however. You can cut/bend then to conform to your door cards (still will be a tight fit).

Ehhh. That sucks. While I agree I don't drive the car often like u. I couldn't relegate it to drag only duty
