Default questions about custom turbo kits

hi,

I've been researching various turbo kits, user experiences, and the costs. I decided on trying to make a custom setup. So far i'm having trouble with what I need, I think these are what I need so far:

(1) manifold (2) turbo that matches the bolt pattern on the manifold, (3) oil-filter relocator depending on the design of the manifold, (4) down-pipe, (5) intercooler, (6) intercooler piping and connectors, (7) a management system, (8) and a more higher volume fuel pump. (9) injectors (tell me if this makes any sense at all)

What I don't understand is (1)what are: oil feed lines, oil return lines, fuel lines, vacuum lines, or ANY lines for that matter. Where can I get this kind of misc. hardware? What kind of random fittings do I need? (2) Also is 2.5" the usual sizing for piping? (3) what other major parts have I left out in the previous list?

Thanks for helping out!

you need to feed the turbo oil to lubricate the bearing in the center section. You need to have a return line to return this heated up oil to the oil pan so more oil can circulate through the turbo.

You might need a coolant line if the turbo is water cooler. Typically only ball bearing turbos are water cooled, but that isn't always the case.

There are some online turbo shops that sell this stuff with varying fittings and line lengths. You'll have to figure out what you need.

I am just over an hour from the summit racing store in Mcdonough GA. Thank god for that. A good racing store should have most of the products you will need as far as -10 lines and vacuum hoses.

You will also need a wastegate and dump tube to regulate the boost.

I would go with a kit. It's much easier to write a check and get parts that work properly for our cars and customer support. I had a few questions for my Inline install, just gave em a quick ring, and they answered everything. Plus I know that if I have an issue down the road, they can help me out.

I forgot to mention, the only reason why I would want to go custom is because I can hand pick the parts that I would go with. I could get a manifold for GT series turbo's if I feel like it, or a T series turbo if I felt like it. Plus I would gain knowledge for future reference. Not to mention I save about a grand, installing this myself.

most turbo kits have support for either or...

You might gain knowledge, but is a ~5grand motor plus headaches worth it?

+ It's good peace of mind knowing that hundreds of others on this forum are running a similar set-up successfully.
