The -ax series are newer, with small (unspecified) upgrades. I believe the main difference is a small bump in flowrate and efficiency. At least at the smaller sizes, the W--ax line share the same height and width. The length just increases as the blowers get bigger.

The W100ax would be enough for a low boost system with (325ish) HP, similar to the MP62 blower used in the SOT kit. The W140ax could be used for a high boost high (450ish) HP application.

The question is will Whipple build either of these smaller blowers with the front intake (requires offset pulley on jackshaft) assembly that they offer for the Ford Raptor kit? If they would sell that combination as a bare compressor, and someone would figure out a sturdy bracket to mount it on our engine, the rest is cake.

I don't know that the Whipples are at all superior to the new TVS series. I think some car mag did a story on the TVS and compared them to twin screw and they were about the same with a couple tradeoffs for each one.

If my SOT car does not sell in the next month as an SC'ed, I am either going to keep it or return to NA. I MIGHT have a used SOT kit to sell, but I don't really want to part it out. If anyone might be looking for that as a shell to start from and you want to PM me your name, I would contact you if I decided to go that route. But it would not be anytime real soon.

Is there an appropriate size tvs unit that has front drive front intake?

The different intakes would be news to me. You get them from different makers. I think Kaolinte got his from Australia. I got mine from Magnussen because they supplied the units for the original SOT kit. From what I understand the have the design specs, and machine one out when you order it, and all the different suppliers may offer different setups if they choose to design different plumbing. So one may offer a front mount intake and others may not. What I would say is that even if they did offer a front mount intake, you still might need a hood bulge because they is not much clearance when the hood is closed with a rear mount intake as it is. All the space that you would use to route the air into the blower from the front is taken up by the output from the blower. There is only space for one 2.5 inch pipe without hood modification.

A custom scoop and airbox or NACA duct are much easier options for cool air to the blower than making a front mount work.

I just did some street tuning with my tuner and on an 85 degree day with the hood closed, no scoop or duct and lots of idling while stopped the highest intake temp was 139 degrees and that was the heatsoaked sensor. When we drove and even under full boost the temps would go down because I put in an oversized barrel intercooler that is 60% bigger than the one that came with the kit and the TVS is fairly efficient. I read second hand that when Wlaurent put a NACA duct near his air filter he was seeing intake temp drops of up to 30 degrees in some conditions. I was getting about 10 degrees above ambient with my oversized cooler and no duct as long as I was moving, and MugenRio said he did 20 minute hard lap sessions with his car and no problems, but he had a vented hood and that was in Alabama heat. Camuman ran water/meth but he was overspinning what was an older, inefficient MP62 blower. The TVS run much cooler. All of my intake plumbing is cool to the touch even after hard runs post blower except for the manifold which is heated by the head.

The hotside rear mount is not as bad as people think and there are ways to mitigate the downsides. With a decent duct or scoop you would be fine. The real difficulty would be being stuck in stop and go LA traffic for an hour in 90 degrees without much fresh air moving under the hood.

oh damn, went back and looked at the pics in your FS thread. You're right there wouldn't be room for both pipes.

If one has to modify the hood anyway, I say just stack it above the intake manifold and put a big scoop on it!

There is a user that got a cold side blower to fit and work, but he moved the alternator to under the header. He also was turbo'd. His name is escaping me.

Edit. His name is YuriArts and he has a thread with the build.

That's him. And he lost AC. And it was only for the bottom of the power band. So small blower. Boo hoo
