Default Rebuild II

I thought I would start a thread about my rebuild. My recent trouble with overheating (detonation as a result of bad tuning) encouraged me to get to work on the old block in my garage.

Last weekend I pulled it down and inspected it.

All the pistons had ring damage and most of the cylinders have slight scratching. This damaged was caused by over boosting some 2.5 years ago.

The plan involves Woessner low compression pistons. They are 0.5mm oversized and good for about 8.5:1 compression. They will be delivered with the block (and possibly the block guard shown in the third pic) to the machinist.

On the question of sleeves, yes I will use sleeves, the FRM ones already in the block. The machinist will be instructed to bore and hone to the specifications of the pistons. I will also take advice on the blockguard and if applicable it will be installed prior to boring.

The OEM rods have been proven up to and above the sort of power goals I have and so will be retained.

Oh, and I will be using ARP head studs, conrod bolts, and header studs.

Well the good news is you know why you were having head gasket trouble now.

Good luck, keep up the good pics

Not sure of the manufacturer's recommendations yet but will post when I know.

I'm really only gunning for around the same power as now (250kw) and maybe a tad more.
