Replacing the center cross member

Btw, you can see the clearance on the last pic from what I have gained. My manifold was built with the oem crossmember in place, and it just cleared it, gave me just enough room for my oil return, now I've got several inches.

I did. I had it on jackstands while removing the beam, but dropped it down on the ground before I did the final welding. Without the beam in, when I jacked on teh subframe, it twisted teh car a bit before it started to rise, I just went high enough to get it off the stands and then right down. It's certainly a structural piece, looks to me to be basically a front box to the frame.
Well thats what worried me, my oil drain was so close, the motor moving was eventually going to stress the 90 and break it. So instead of buying an entirely new manifold, redoing downpipes/i/c piping/etc/etc. I decided to do this, and really clean up the bay quite a bit. Gave me all sorts of room.
