I'm doing this right now except motor is out. Its not so bad getting the motor out. I haven't decided what pistons to get. Definately easier on an engine stand cause you can flip the block upside down. Plus trying to see if I can get a plate so I can fit a different trans. Post up progress :thumbs up:

Why not just drive around with the leaky headgasket for the remainder of the summer , seems like you only noticed cause you looked for it
That is EXATLY what I am planning. For now I am going to throw in some Alumaseal, retorque and let it ride. Maybe even turn up the boost to see how strong the engine really is.

The tell for the problem was intermittant missing at lower RPM's, so when I talked to Kevin I already though it was leaking.

I have to pull it down anyway to send the manifold back so I will do it later in the fall. I am going to start looking for parts and tools to do the job.

I'm weighing my options right now on what to do.
Maybe put either the 1.1 cosworth or 3mm Inline head gasket with my old stock head and then...

I'm thinking of buying a complete short block new from Honda and have the pistons replaced with a set of Mahle 8.9 compression pistons... My sister has a hook up with Honda and can get stuff at employee cost so I *hope* that will be less than 2k.. I figure with the pistons it will be less than 3K for a complete brand spanking new low compression FRM short block! Then have my built head decked and put it back together with ARP's and a factory head gasket.

I was thinking of buying a used Laskey short block from a member, but he informed me that the motor was "basically brand new" and *only* had scuffs on the bores that couldn't be caught with a fingernail.. I'm sorry but if there are scuffs after 1500 miles that's a can of worms I dont want to open up! Hence why I'm thinking the new stock block with lower compression pistons are the way to go. Like Scott says: "You just cant beat Honda's quality."

It worked for me for around 4K miles.

My car has been getting slower as the head gasket has been degrading. I'd rather fix it before it becomes a major failure (engine boom!)
Scott on the other hand just enjoys working on his car more than driving it.
Also, coolant getting into the cylinder and burned eats away at the piston and head bowl. Coolant when burned wreaks havoc on aluminum.

just build a spare motor, with fresh bearings etc. then sell the old one. you should be able to make most of the $$ back.

What do you mean by: "going back to stock with the motor"?
