Is a s2000 worth turboing
I don't really understand all these people saying, "Get a Z06 and mod it if you want speed it'll be cheaper."
I've seen that on alot of posts not just this one...I'm looking at autotrader right now and most newer Z06's are about $50,000 to $83,000...alot of them are used. Of course the newer one's will be more to the high end but...where are the cash savings here? Looks to me like someone is
To be fair I'll match model years to my car...the cheapest 2004 Z06 I found was $31,000. Lets be honest yes there are cheaper wrecked ones or with super high miles but who wants that if you're going to build? So that was the cheapest one that was in good shape. Now the Vortech supercharger for this is between $6400 and $6700. That's not including upgrades to exhaust, ECU if needed, etc. You'd be well over $40,000 by the time you got it upgraded completely. Where as I paid $17,000 for my car which is in great shape, it was a leased vehicle, and for turbo kit, gauges, drivetrain, fuel system, everything I'm just below $10,000. So lets see $17,000 plus $10,000 is...hmmm...oh about $27,000...$4,000 less the the 2004 Z06 was to even start with...and that one for $31,000 might even be in bad shape so it would be more for a better one. So well over $40,000 for a slightly modded Z06 or $27,000 for a highly modded S2000 which for that money can put down MORE POWER (vortech advertises 591hp for C6, 635 for C6Z06, which will be slightly less for the C5) than the 'Vette...so how is the Z06 cheaper??? Sorry guys I'm gonna have to go out on a limb here and say if you think it's cheaper to mod a vette then I've got your sign right here
Sure a vette can get more power...it's a 6.xL V8 so no surprise there, but it won't be cheaper, and I like the fact that I can say I have a turbo S...how many people can? There's tons of people with vettes...modded or not.

It's worth it if you do it right. Just know you'll have to do supplemental mods to maximize traction for all that power on a road course...and upgrade cooling...and brakes...etc.
All those thing together could cost more or less, depending on your alternative option of choosing a different car.
Regular C5s with just tires and a tune are FAST on a road course and could cost less in the long run, since they already start off with components that are designed to handle that kind of torque. You can't forget reliability either.
In the end, it's up to you. Any project can be worth it. Just be prepared to spend monies either way.

I will say it is nice having a Turbo S, yeah I am not the fastest but you would be amazed how many thumbs up I get, not just from the rice crowd, but general car enthusiasts, I also don't know why people say buy a vette and mod that, he doesnt have a Vette and if thats the case, buy a dirt cheap 5.0 Mustang and I am sure you could turn that into an 11 second car relatively cheap as well............
I would rather have a slower S then a faster Vette/mustang..........
Dodge Viper is another story

Yeah, you can get anything and turn it into awesome anything, but vettes are good performers on a road course. Regular C5s are much faster on most road courses stock for stock, and they can be had for around a similar price for a boosted S.
My point is that the rest of the S needs to be upgraded to make use of all that power, and that could potentially cost more than just buying something else that already has a balanced platform and is fairly dependable without major mods.
Even with all the headaches that you will encounter on the way, once you got it all sorted out there is no way you could go back to NA. With just 100hp increase the car is insane in the twisties. The thing that has satisfied me so much is all the additional touque in the low/midrange that was seriously lacking prior.
