Default Serial Gauge Set Up

Ok, so ive been through numerous threads about setting this Serial Gauge up between this site, the AEM site, and others and still, I have NOT found a step by step set up from beginning to end. I plan to go through everyones advice to modify the thread for pointers and steps.

Im starting this thread as a one stop thread for others, myself included. to learn how to set this gauge up.

For starters: I cannot get my gauge to read anything other then a 0 on the left side of the screen. When I start the car up it first flashes PER, which i think is upside down or the gauge is upside down, but I dont know how that can be since the face us upright? Anyways, left side of the screen then reads 0.

I have AEMPro V1.19 which is required.

STEPS:

1 - I unhooked the black cable from the gauge from the white cable that comes from the EMS. I plugged the serial to port adapter into the white cable that runs to the EMS.

2 - I opened up my AEM Pro after starting the car and hit "Connect to EMS" and it connected.

3 - Instructions say to click "view", "Wizards", 'Telemetary Wizard", then make sure the "AEM Serial Data Stream Gauge" option is selected and then hit OK.

4 - You will notice at the bottom left corner of the screen in red it will say "CAL CHANGED" from here I have no idea what left to do because I have tried a few things and nothing.

I also wanted to state that the above was only done while working "offline" I could not click the wizards seclection under view while connected to the EMS??

This is where I need help??

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried calling AEM to see if you have a faulty unit?

How would they be able to tell I have a faulty unit without having it in their hands and testing?

If you are working 'Offline' you are not changing the EMS.

You need to connect to the EMS then make changes. This changes the settings in the EMS but will also change the Working File which is loaded on your laptop. You can then save a copy locally.

It's been a long time since I did initial setup so I can't really give you a step by step but being Online is the first step.

If this is with the 1052U, then I did something like this to get started.

1) Connect to EMS (don't work offline)
2) Set the AEM Serial Data Stream Gauge option using your steps
3) Save EMS CAL (File -> Save)
4) Close AEMPro
5) Start AEM ProGauge
6) Open the appropriate CAL file for your serial gauge (C:\Program Files\AEM\ProGauge\*mdb). This will be uploaded to the gauge.
7) Customize the gauge CAL file (maybe later)
8) Insert key into ignition and turn to accessory mode
9) Select the appropriate COM port and connect laptop/PC to serial gauge (might need to get the appropriate cable beforehand)
10) Watch the progress of the serial gauge cal file being uploaded
11) Connect serial gauge back to EMS
