Default Small Turbo! <300 hp!

Hello all,
Research is ongoing, but I thought I'd pop in here since there are a lot of turbos for sale in the classifieds.

I'm the owner of an AE86 F20c, and I want a little more kick than what the F20 is giving at the moment. It currently gives out around 200 whp. I know a lot of people like to stay NA and upgrade cams etc., but that doesn't seem very cost efficient to me. I also like boost.

I'd like to stay under 300 hp. Nothing crazy. Most turbos I've been looking for offer lots of high end power, but I'd rather have boost kick in a little earlier if possible (~3000 RPM). Just a small little turbo that lets me hear the BOV often

Any suggestions?

If you're after fast spool and happy with 300whp then I would advise on a Garret TR30R.

I had one on my last set up:

Spool was crazy fast, such a smooth power delivery. Zero lag and on demand torque. Shame as I had 2 and have now sold them both..

Greddy kit would be best out of the box option for you, but I've always despised log manifold set ups, and the torque curve is always choppy up top. Depending on what you wanna do and how much you wanna spend, you could get something like a Ptuning kit or an SOS kit with a really small turbo, gt3071 or maybe even smaller and get what you desire.

I can budget up to $3000, but would ideally like to spend less than $2000. That money is set for parts and installation.

I don't know anything about FI tuning, how much it costs, and/or how involved it is. Most likely I'll be paying someone to do it.
