Thumbs up So is 10psi old school info

What do you guys think about 10psi on the stock HG being the max. I have been learning that as long as you are not getting knock/ detonation you can increase the boost above that level 12+. The stuff/ems we are using now is much better than that of just a few years ago, any thoughts. So 10psi with knock is worse that 12psi without? So why not increase it above the 10psi am I not understanding something.

Of course you can go above 10psi on stock compression, its just the chances of knock are much greater and would have a much worse effect.

Your basically giving yourself some headroom in case of bad gas / a tuning fluke where the car knocks for no reason.

^^^^ it's a safety thing. the motor doesnt explode immediately at 11psi - its just that 10psi seems to be a good rule of thumb to avoid major issues.

you could push 14 on your car with your water/meth and a good tune I would bet.

while on the dyno, Jon pushed 15psi and had no detonation or knock at all, though more psi netted me no gains so we backed it down to 12psi.

I have seen a couple other guys doing this as well and my tuner asked if I wanted to take it to 11psi cause in MD we get 93, I am not sure you can get this in every state.

Knock in simple terms is caused from incorrect timing created by improper fuel mixtures, early fuel detonation, etc. Knock is bad at all times regardless of your peak boost pressure. Just because you can't hear knock when increasing boost doesn't mean you aren't creating lean conditions and/or causing damage to your internals with high combustion temperatures!

As for the head... increasing boost pressure too high can lift the head enough to break the seal of your head gasket.

Solution is to upgrade head studs and head gasket. I don't know the particulars of the recommended max boost for a stock head gasket and head studs but I'm sure the info is somewhere on s2ki. Compression ratio and timing can also be altered slightly with the thickness of the head gasket.

If you already have knock there are a lot of possible problems, but they should be limited to the ignition or fuel system.

Also don't forget the more power you start making the more parts of the drive train will start needing replaced!

Well I Have the Berk High-Flow Cat sitting at my house and my Fiance just surprised me with the AEM Methanol Kit, as well as the Competition Clutch STage 2 clutch, you believe that What a girl

I am going to Install the CAT & Meth within the next two or three weeks get it up and running and bring the car to P-Tuning mid to late October for a re-tune, as far as the clutch and the 12lb Flywheel I have sitting in my house, I dont know when Ill get those in, probably when my clutch really starts to go............

I am psyched for the cluth & Flywheel I am for the Meth too but I really want it for safety, I am not expecting huge numbers I would be happy with 20RWHP & 20ft/lbs of Torque, Lets just keep our fingers crossed and hope I dont see CREEP/SPikeing issues with the HFC, although its 2.5 inches and I may pick the Boost up to 12psi with the Meth so maybe I wont have spiking/creeping issues after all
