Default Spal extreme Performance fan solved my over heating problems !

I have a think super dense garrett 1000hp core 24x12x3.5 front mount intercooler blocking all the air to my mishimoto radiator. I have a aem sieres 2 with a serial gauge to read the coolant temps. I also have a large air to air oil cooler in front of the ac condenser and behind the intercooler. I was running stock fans set to come on at 194 and to turn off at 188 degrees. The Car was only able to keep the temps controlled at idle or at very low moving speeds. The faster the car went the higher the temps went. The hotter the day and with ac on the car would run hotter. Ifs its in the middle of a 90-100 degree day and i had the ac on and i was cruzing at freeway speeds the water temps can slowly get up to 210-220. Fyi the aem series 2 show the 4th bar on the coolent temp on the stock dash at 220 degrees. If i pulled over and let the car idle it will slowly drop. At night water temps on the freeway would be in the upper 190's to 205. For the most part the water temps were fine at night, at low speeds, or when the outside temp was under 80 degrees.

Typically whan a car runs hot at low speeds it can be a fan issue and when a car runs hot at high speeds its not a fan issue. The ram air effect at speed is suppose to cool the car and the car should run cooler. Not in this case. Our cars were never designed to have a huge fmic blocking the whole front of the grill. So, as speed is increased so is rpm and load but the radiator still has no airflow because of the fmic. The only way to fix this is a V mount intercooler/radiator setup. I chose to increase air flow by running the most powerful fans I can fit and low and behold it fixed the problem.

Spal makes 4 types of fans. low profile(2 inchs thick, about 800cfm for a 12"), medium profile (2.5" thick about 1000cfm for a 12"), high performance (3.5" thick about 1400 cfm for a 12 inch), extreme performance (4.5 thick 1800cfm for a 12)
I believe the stock fans are less than 1000cfms because because you can only run a spal low profile or medium profile fan on the stock fan wiring. A spal high performance or extreme performance fan will blow the stock relay's and fuses. The spal high performance fan can run spals $30 relay/wiring kit but the extreme perforance fan must run their high output rely and harness kit which is about $120

I ran the 12" spal extreme performance fan which requires their special harness and high output relay kit. The harness and relay kit alone was about $120 on ebay and the fan was about $160. I installed this fan in place on the driver side ac fan and i kept the stock passenger fan. The spal extreme performance fan is 4.5 inchs thick and you must run you intercooler piping inline pro style through the headlight hole for this fan to fit. I used the stock fan wiring as a trigger to turn on and off the spal 12 inch extreme fan / relay.

This fan has fixed my high speed freeway over heating problem. It can be 100+ degrees out and i'm on the freeway with the ac blasting and the temps are always 188-194. fans come on at 194 and the temps go down to 188 and the fans turn off. The cooling system now works perfectly!!! The water temp almost never goes to over 200 degees. I'm going to replace the stock passenger side fan with another spal 12" extreme performance and that should keep the temps way down.

My brother's turbo s2000 runs the dual mishimoto fan shroud kit and he has the same problem as i did. He will be redoing his intercooler piping so he can also run the spal extreme performance fan. Slim fans just cant flow enough air to keep the waters temps in check when you have a fmic blocking all the air.

I also need to go back to my tuner now because when the fans kick on the car can almost stall.
Mock up was done in my garage with the stock radiator so I didn't have to take the mishimoto radiator out of my car.

This is the spal 14" high performance fan. Flow 1600cfm and 3.5" thick. This is the fan that p tunning uses on their kit but they only run 1 fan

pic of a 12" spal medium profile fan(1000cfm and 2.5 thick) This did not help my over heating problem. This probably flows the about the same as stock.

Thanks for posting. I have an overheating issue exactly like this but more severe. So I just vented my hood. I will probably pick up a spam fan in the future as well cuz my intercooler pipe runs downward behind the fan

A shroud would make a massive difference if you can fit one.

That's not big HCB, try twin 16's

LOL, queue Deuce Bigalow "That's a HUGE bitch!" sound clip.

I have two of the medium profile fans from SPAL and they probably pull just a little bit more air than the stock fans, but not much. I do run them off the stock wiring though. Thanks for the info.

To be fair, it's a touch better when it has seats in.

Looking at the room on the rad, I'd try to make a shroud for the smaller fan at least and stand it back an inch or two from the core.

That buggy looks like it has 2 spal 16 inch high performance fans which flow 2000cfms each.
I tried the mishimoto fan shroud with their 2 slim fans. That did now help. That was no better than stock. The mishimoto slim fans are quite weak. They probably flow the same or less than stock.

I tried the spal medium profile fans and the mishimoto fan shroud and their low profile fans. This did not help as they flow about the same or less than stock fans.
