If I put in the wrong way would it keep it from starting? Really stumped on this one... And I really don't want to have to take it to the mechanic to figure out the sh**storm I brewed up.

Oh ok. I was thinking that it was kind of like when they stick you with a needle and the thing is spring loaded... Oh and with the way my car is setup you can't really look through the service hole unless you start taking stuff out. I'm going to check it out in about 10 min. I'll let you guys know what happens. This has been a pita for me... It wouldn't have been too bad if I was in a heated garage. Windy as hell out here.
just by reading through this thread, i noticed that the FSM step by step directions have been neglected along the way. you should never just take the tct out and let shit fly everywhere. unless you're a caveman with zero ability.

you should use a long bolt and nut to hold the tct in place for removal. you should also twist it in, and lock it down with a small pin for installation and pull the pin through the service hole and it will def "pop" from the tension being released.

if you did not follow the fsm directions, be prepared for whatever may come your way and be ready to do it over again.

I was on the understanding that a pin was not required for just a rebuild? I'll take it out and see what my issue is.

thats because you were basing your understanding off of some incorrect shady writeup on a forum.

there is a reason that honda has the step by step process they use. and since its the item honda built and not built by some member on a forum, i would be more apt to follow honda's directions.

retrace your steps and redo it to spec.

good luck man.

^I said to use the pin but everyone disagreed. Bolt is used to wind it up so that you can get the pin in.

I don't think that the writeup by Sideways is shoddy at all...
I have used it 3-4 times and not had any issues. It really is easier. I have even removed the access hole cover to verify that the worm gear scrolls out and makes contact with the timing chain. Absolutely easy and works well. Here is the link...

^ I have had the bolt get stuck in the tensioner several times after installing it to the head and the tensioner just spins inside with the bolt. Thats why I stopped doing it that way and started using the pin method.

Whatever works, either will get the job done.

the bolt does not lock the tensioner all the way down. it cant. thats why the pin is used.

sideways decided to do it his was because of his SC making it very difficult to do it the correct way.

i just dont get it. its like, "follow these steps and you will have success guaranteed", or, "try this and see if it works out for ya.".....

dont complain about it not working when you dont wanna do it the right way.
