Yeah does not seem worth it for the money. It may however help cause you push your car pretty hard.

I rev mine to 9k with rev limit set to 9400 on ap2 valvetrain.

Unless you plan on running a larger turbo there is no point in doing this. My turbo is laggy so i kinda need to do this.

I wouldnt waste your money.

if you are going to do it, just have machine shop do the new valve guide install and deck the head, and whatever else you want done and then you install the valves, springs and retainers yourself. its worth spending the 100 or so bucks for the tool to be able to do them easy

the one i use bolts to teh top of the head, and then a large handle pivots and squished the spring so you can grap the keepers. just keep an eye on the keepers!!!! there friggin small.

The power gain will be small if any, the 30r will run out of breath at that high of an rpm, and probally hinder performance. It seems like if any valvetrain upgrade should be done, the OEM AP2 springs and retainers are the best choice. Many of the high horsepower (500-600whp) guys are running oem stuff with no negative results, i wouldnt waste my money, save the cash and buy a bigger turbo!

Agreed. The only way you're gonna float a valve is through an over-rev...it's is possible that the lighter valvetrain might give you some extra headroom but the 5th to 2nd 'money shift' is gonna put you waaaay past the point of no return unless you're really fast on the clutch.

I think the real benefit to the higher redline comes to racers/time attackers. It gives you a bit more flexibility at a track to hold the car in gear around a particular corner for longer than would otherwise be possible. Regardless of whether your power starts to drop off or not, you're still going to be faster around that particular track.

If you don't track/race, I'd probably spend my money elsewhere, personally. I know some of us centrifugal supercharged guys have had head work done to increase redline because our peak HP numbers are directly related to our rpm (see Sideways). But they're the minority cuz some of us (see me) don't have that kind of a budget.

Trbokev, how much did it run you for all the work and parts? What parts did you go with? What do good valve seats run?
Off the top of my head, I think I paid 780 for all the components from Laskey Racing.

Supertech dual valve springs
Supertech Ti retainers
Supertech Stainless intake valves
Supertech Inconel exhaust valves
Supertech dual spring locators
Supertech valve guides

I purchased all this plus new valve guides. I paid 715 shipped ( i think that may be a deal though and the normal price is about what the guy i quoted paid)

I plan on raising my rev limit up in to the 10.5k area

So, did you get them at this price from Supertech, or do you know someone who knows a vendor? If you've got a hook-up, do you think you could get some other S2KI members any deals? I'd bedown to buy the same set that you got (guides included) if you could get a price close to yours.
