I can appreciate what all the drag racing "vets" are saying, but I don't think there's anything wrong with your approach at all Joey.

I think there's nothing wrong with going out there once or twice just to get to know your surroundings at the track. Get a feel on how your adrenaline affects you and your driving when you line up at the tree, and methodically get more and more aggressive after each pass and watch yourself improve until you hit that wall where you know you need to launch and get better tires.

Granted, I'm running a GT30R on 14psi so I'm not putting down the same number as you, but since I don't have drag tires yet, I didn't do burnouts or launch my car. But I still had a ton of fun, I ran pretty consistent high 12's around 118mph, and now I look forward to getting a set of drag tries and see how I do the next time I'm there. The bonus is that I will be doing it with a lot less nervs.

My only advice for you would be learn to slip the clutch, it would be your best friend coming off the line to avoid any wheel hop.

Again, nothing wrong with doing things in stages, to some people its more fun that way.

 

not everyone goes to the track to nail the best possible time. some of us go to just have fun, and see what the car can do with us driving it.

i agree your tires are not ideal, remember you make serious power, and a typical street tire just wont hold it. do you spin in 1,2,3 or 4 gear flooring it on the street? if so they are not good enough tires.

boost by speed helps, but tires that are not up to the task will just hurt your overall trap.

when i go to track, i rev to 5ish, slip the clutch till it grabs while feeding throttle. its not balls out but it gets me going. i dont slam gears either, not worth 1-3 tenths of a second to drop a trans/diff. F THAT.

go and have fun. honestly, if you run to the cars potential they will just kick your ass off the track anyways. truth is a 130 trap car with no cage may get a stern talking too.

my guess, being that your on a street tire and not familiar with the track, 12.5-13.5@120-125.

its not indicative of the cars performance, but rather your ability to get it moving from a stop.

Broke the pinion gear on my diff on Hoosier radial rain tires (sticky as balls tire, Hard sidewall)
I didnt even leave hard off the line and cracked every tooth on the pinion

I have my new M/T radials mounted on AP1 rears. I just have to order one more line lock to complete the setup and try again

Buy some used ap1 rears. It's worth it for the better size available.

 

I cant believe you guys are all over his case OVER AND OVER. he clearly stated hes not all in it for the ET. he cares more about his MPH in the 1/4 and easing off the line will not affect the ending MPH to much. It will slightly but obviously no where near the ET change. Once he can establish a good MPH time he can compare his car to other types of cars that are out there in the world. especially if hes in the mood to do some roll racing or something because Roll vs. 1/4mile MPH is how to compare cars the easiest way in a real/keyboard simulation.

I say you go and just have fun and not break your car.
