I run 255's in the rear and I spin in second pretty good and then spin in third in vtec also. I have new tires going on the car tomorrow though, so hopefully this will improve.

I've freaked my girlfriend out a few times now getting on the freeway and breaking the tires loose. The feeling of the rear kicking out etc is exaggerated though because we are basically sitting on the rear tires..

Just make sure your pointed strait when you stab the gas!

Anything that is off the shelf ~300 rwhp area will spin them a little if you try to, but very controllable. I am talking stock SC and Greddy turbo kits. Turbo's and SOT roots kits will be more squirrely in the low gears that other SC's because of low end torque.

If you plan on going much higher, like say 400rwhp, with no experience in a higer hp rwd car, well then do so at your own risk. Lots of it will depend on the torqure curve. Cold tires can still be an issue, rain is definately an issue.

When I was about that hp level when I had the greddy kit I could NOT spin my tires (255's) in any gear strait line. Only way was a low gear turning.
I got bored quickly with that hp level.

at 377wph (kraftwerks s/c highboost kit) and 255-40-17 dunlop z1 star spec (on 9 inch wide wheel). Traction is as follows:

1st gear - from a roll there is a decent amount of wheel spin but rear does not kick out. very easy to control.

2nd gear - 98% traction. just the slightest amount of lift barely notice.

3rd gear - 100% traction.

I dont have any issues really with the rear kicking out. Under racing or cayon type conditions you just need to be more throttle conscience. Coming out of certain corners on the track i used to mash the throttle NA. Now i either need to be at a lower rpm and/or apply a little less throttle.

With the Greddy kit it would just barely break the tires loose in first and after that I never had problems.

With my new set up I use boost by gear.

1st - 10 PSI - Break the tires loose around 7500 65% of the time

2nd - 13 PSI - Just on the edge of traction, one little bump or hiccup and it lets em go

3rd - 15 PSI - More controllable than first but still at the limit

4th - 16.5 PSI - No Worries

I am trying to find a quality shop to widen my wheels so I can fit a 275 or larger tire.

sounds great, thanks for the help! Are you guys on the street or are you on Tracks? I would be doing mostly street driving with in the temps of 50 - 90 degrees out. Does that change anything?

how much power do you want to make and what tire are you gonna run. otherwise, cant tell u whats gonna happen to your setup.

i make 344/245 and can floor it in first with no traction problems. on the shifts i bark/spin/hop the rear but still extremely controllable.

i roll on 275-35-18 toyo ra1

when its cooler out, i can get 1st gear to 50% of the time break loose on a roll stab, but its a combo of cooler air making more power, and the tires being colder and less sticky.

if i made more power then 450ish i would go to a MT ET street II
