Default tuning a turbo kit?

i know most people use aem ems or kpro to tune. but would an electronic boost controller work just as well?? or would i still have to get the ems's???

im rebuilding a motor w/ all built parts to really get a good turbo. prolly gonna go precision 6262 kit on that one.

but im thinking about getting one of the cheap like $700-$1000 kits just to have fun on my motor in the car now. but they dont come with the aem ems or krpo's but do come with a electronic/manual boost controller.

would that work and just get the psi tuned with like two controllers and a switch so i can switch my psi?

I suggest doing a lot of reading before you even think about buying anything for your car.

$700 turbo kits will destroy your motor.
A boost controller doesnt add fuel...
efi tuning = electronic fuel injection tuning
Built motors cost thousands of dollars.

+1.

Before you start taking shit off the car and replace it with an ebay kit read this FI forum and see what everyone ELSE does and why they avoid that plan ^^. Tuning this car with anything other than an EMS or Kpro is blasphemy . Boosting these cars is $expensive$

Oh wow! If you have to ask if you can skip getting an AEM EMS or KPro and just use a boost controller, you really need to seriously do a lot of research before you even think about starting a turbo build.

no i was just thinking of it like this. a manual boost controller uses a screw to adjust the air psi level of the turbo. so if i upgraded the fuel injectors couldnt i just technically adjust the boost controller until it matches and use an air to fuel ratio to make sure im in the safe levels?

im talking technically here.

nnnnnno but it would be nice if things were that simple. You have to actually have a computer that can tune the duty cycle of the injectors for each boost level and each throttle position, in addition to adjusting the timing. Just throwing a load of gas and air at the car will cause it to go apeshit and things will start breaking. There are so many things to consider when putting something like this together so you should get as much as you can from this forum then consult a compitent tuner from around your area. Depending on your states emissions laws you will want to do either Kpro or AEM. If you leave in, say, North Carolina, you wont be able to pass inspection with the EMS due to the OBD2, so Kpro is your best option. All of this info is easily axcessable with our little search option that comes free of cost to all browsers of the site:

Clicky.

Dude, you may seriously just want to skip engine building, it'll cost you thousands anyway, and get a Greddy turbo and call it day. You can buy them used for around $2500 (much cheaper than building a motor) and they come with a pretuned e-manage.

The route you are planning ends in a motor Kaboom.

thank you golds2000 your post helped the most. instead of flaming me for asking questions.

i'd rather ask these questions before i do something.

know i understand why u must get the ems because alot more comes into play like timing and stuff.

i was just thinking from a technical standpoint.

which those cheap turbo kits dont come with an ems so add about $1000 and thats a crappy $1700 turbo kit i might as well get the $2,500-$3,000 good ones and wont have to change it later.

ya and in south carolina we dont have emissions at all. but i still think i like the krpo a little better than aem ems.

plan for $3-7k depending on what you expect out of the car. 300whp is easy, 500whp not so easy and therefore much more expensive.
