Default Turbo Oil coolers

So, I am looking into adding a small oil cooler in the turbo oil return, but I hesitate as I am not well versed in turbo specifications. I was looking to add a small cooler directly below the turbo and above the pan fitting. This cooler would small, only 3" x 4" x 10", with large inlets and outlets like a power steering cooler. Since the pressure drop should be very low and I will have plenty of slope to the pan can anyone see that I will encounter any problems with the turbo flow rate or problems with seals?

You want the return as straight and free flowing as possible. Don't do it.

I should probably explain why I am doing this, I had so many problems with the Greddy oil relocation kit I removed it and the stock oil cooler/heater so that I could install Inline Pro's. I ended up not using Inline

You could get some fittings welded to the sump and run an electric pump to a front mounted cooler. You can get oil pumps from race car shops that are designed for this purpose. ( they are normally used for diff or transmission oil cooling, but work fine for engine oil).

I would just weld a dash 10 low ( possibly over the drain plug), and higher near the flange to the block and put the pump low down as possible so it keeps it prime.

I wouldnt put anything on the turbo drain line as any backing up of the oil to the bearing cartridge can upset them and cause seal and smoking issues.

That has crossed my mind but it is impossible without moving the turbo or changing lots of things.

The oil sump and pump would be a better way to go.

I don't think that cooler is designed for oil but even if it is it's not adequate for what you have done to your setup. You have a turbo that is only oil cooled. Your engine produces more heat than a stock motor and you also removed the water to oil heat exchanger. Your oil temp will go through the roof. You will kill the turbo and or damage the crank shaft bearing if the oil get too hot/to thin.

If you are planning to use a pump and oil cooler, look at the PWR oil to water inline cooler

I will be using their 3"x8" 38mm and their radiator to improve the engine oil temp.

This is an oil cooler, which is available in various dimensions.

Since I don't race I am not that worried about it, with an aluminum finned pan and plenty of oil I should stay within the operating range. I am looking forward to racing it this coming summer so I need to find a setup by then. I will probably go to either a plate or tube and fin and make my own kit based on the parts I got from Inline for the relocation kit.
