Turbo timer
Are there any negatives to a universal turbo timer? There are ones like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Turbo-Timer...1QQcmdZViewItem and I'm just wondering if there is really a difference between these and the expansive greddy and HKS ones.
Modern water-cooled, ball-bearing turbos do not need turbo timers. Unless someone romps their car around and then shuts it off immediately, the oil/bearings will cool to temps that should not result in coking. A few minutes of easy driving before shut off is all one needs.
it might work...for a while...but i'd trust the brand name models before i trust one of those. Even the brand name models sometimes malfunction, i'd hate to see what can go wrong with an ebay model. You could walk away, and expect your car to turn off a couple minutes later, but 4 hours later when you come back, it could still be on! (for example). The warranty and support is most likely not there as well. If it stops working, you might just be SOL. Brand name models are only $100 anyway. Might as well just do it right.
You can get a really good quality Apex'i Auto Timer used on ebay for cheap. I got mine for $45 shipped. Just make sure u're buying an authentic one. Nice thing about the apexi is it displays battery voltage and O2 voltage so I can still send my wideband signal to it
