Honestly- at 9 psi with a log manifold, stock cat, and stock exhaust, you probably have a LOT of knock. I would turn down the boost to 5 psi and check your a/f ratios before doing anything else. If the stock computer is pulling timing, 5 psi should feel better than 9 psi. There is a very high potential to blow your motor with 9 psi on most of these kits if anything is wrong at all. 220 whp is a sign that something is definitely wrong. Removing the car and adding a larger exhaust will definitely help.

I feel I need to add to this.

First off, the customer is using an AEM EMS that was dyno-tuned by a shop/tuner in NJ. Secondly, I never said he would have no problems getting 320whp with stock everything. What was mentioned was that we have a customer that ran the stock cat-back with our testpipe @ 9psi and made about 322whp. His dyno chart can be found on our website. We have also made 308whp @ 8psi with the stock cat-back, test-pipe, and the E-Manage.

They must have changed something because the first few released were apparently nightmares.
Differences from Gen 1 to Gen 2:

- Different turbocharger (spec, and downpipe flange)
- 440cc injectors upgraded to 600cc
- HKS Wastegate off turbo switched to TiAL 38mm on top of the manifold
- Wastegate dumps to atmosphere now
- E-Manage Ignition Harness supplied
- AEM EMS now available as an option

As for the first few kits being a disaster, I would like more information on this. I was actively posting on this forum around the time the first kits were introduced. I actually remember 90% of all my S2000 turbo kit customers. The first few had problems, which had a lot to do installation errors, or owner error. But of course, these customers chose to post here FIRST, before contacting us. If you do a search, I'm sure you'll find the original threads. One of the first customers posted that his car was not running well at all. After several calls back and forth, we discovered that his E-Manage RPM input wire was incorrectly wired to the fan wire. That was eventually solved when I had asked the customer to take a picture of the mechanics wiring job. It was a miracle I was able to see the error from a cell phone camera (early 2000's technology!). Another kit (probably the disaster you are referring to) involved a blown motor and an E-Manage with incorrect programming. This was definitely our fault and we took actions to get it rectified. When the programming error was discovered, the customer was informed NOT to drive the car. Now, that customer and I got along very well and we spoke to eachother daily. We even speak to eachother now after all these years. Anyhow, one night he had talked to me about feeling bad about racing an M3 on the streets even though he was asked not to drive it until he received the newly programmed E-Manage. That engine blew. But of course, it was posted here that his motor blew because of our kit.

Hope this all rings a bell.

Unfortunately, it is these reports that stick most in peoples' minds. This is no different than "all the problems with early model S2000s" that we hear so much about. It's sad but true. We can only go by what has been posted here. Noone posts up how great something is but everyone with a problem posts it up immediately. And this is the "bell" that rings in my head.
