Thumbs up ummm Head Gasket again or paranoid?

So I have 2,200 miles since I replaced my Headgasket and have gone WOT maybe 4 times in high boost (18ishlbs) have been mostly driving around at 11lbs dont beat on it really much at all being its been so cold out

So just now after a little bit of spirited driving I popped the hood to check oil and I heard a little what I think was bubbling (or maybe just dripping liquid into the overflow?) in the overflow tank, it was dark so I couldnt see any bubbles but am thinking the noise is from air . Car does not overheat, does not burn any coolant (although since day one car has always seemed to smell a little but like coolant)

Anyway just wondering if anyone else randomly gets that ?

Honestly, it's not the end of the world I will just go back to Stock CR if this one blows but I really havent beaten on it and ambient temps have been sub 40F for quite some time, I can't imagine for the life of me there would be any detonation going on. Last time I was at full boost in a 100F day with the turbo and manifold glowing red, so I can understand the HG popping then, but just doesnt seem right that it would go now, maybe its just my paranoia, car starts fine, coolant level is consistent etc......

thanks guys Merry Christmas

Ahhh I hate that feeling! I just ripped out my 3mm and am trying out a 2mm. If this pops I'm giving up and going stock c.r.

Honestly we can all shoot in the dark but if you have a small compressor grab a leak down tester or make your own like I did out of a compression tester and you can know 100% if it's blown

Joey,

Might be a bit of condensation burning off from the combustion process. It's one of the same reasons they tell people who store cars for winter that if they take then out, to drive them for 20-30 minutes so the oil can heat up and condensation can evaporate off...

As long as the car is not overheating and there is no gunk on the dipstick... Your HG should be fine.

If you are uber paranoid, you can pop the valve cover off and see if there is any real buildup (if coolant and oil are mixing, the coolant should evaporate off the oil in the pan when oil reaches operating temp, evaporated stuff will collect at the highest point (valve cover).

That isn't 100% true either as mine was pressurizing the coolant system (blown between the cylinder bridges) yet it did not overheat or show any signs of mixing yet. A leak down test indicated the gasket was blown though, and removing it confirmed this with all the coating missing on the bridges.

umm its normal for the radiator cap to open and close to allow coolant to either flow into the overflow or be sucked back in to the radiator. during this process it will make some noise, i don't think you have anything to worry about.

Well it is very hard to say, even with the car in front of me and with the proper tools the leaks can be very hard to diagnose.

I just wanted to make note of one thing. You say that you are only running 11PSI but it is common for the timing to be a bit too agressive at lower pressure levels and concervative at higher pressures. Also I have seen several instances where the timing in the mid rpm range is too agressive and the topend was concervative. I would check your plugs and if you think there is a problem give Jeff a ring and talk to him.

Happy Holiday to you, and good luck

How old is your radiator cap? I smelled a little bit of coolant for months and just became use to it since there was no indication of a problem. Recently I found that the cap was starting to leak just slightly. I noticed my heat started getting cold at idle and take for ever to heat up when driven. Noticed my coolant temp went up to 4 bars and thought my head gasket was going.

hmmmmmmmmmm, interesting I do have the CAL file for the AEM, care to take a peak? I am not sure how to look up the timing maps
