Ok guys, my turbo is still very new l, under 1k miles on this. It's a Mase kit on an 06 running just shy of 9 lbs boost. I was passing someone the other day, probably at 80% throttle in fifth gear and as soon as I let off the gas, I heard two quick taps in very close succession. Needless to say, it worried me a little bit. After I gathered that everything was still in working order, I tried to recreate the sound. I can pretty much reproduce the sound at will. It always happens after I boost for a bit and then let off on the gas. I don't have to be at WOT, just boosting. It definitely sounds like it's coming from the engine bay. I recorded it while I was driving just for reference. The video isn't great by any means, but you can hear the sound I'm talking about pretty clearly.
Any insight you guys have for me would be great. Thanks!

U sure it's not coming from your exhaust or maybe u have an exhaust leak somewhere? Sounds like backfire from unburnt fuel.. That would be my guess.

 

yea could just be something wit hthe map. I would take it to your tuner strap and down and reproduce the sound there, and then make adjustments. probably your safest bet.

 

I can't tell from the movie if you have an open dump, but that sounds like the sound my Mase kit made when the dump tube was buzzing against the frame on overrun.

 

Thanks for the advice guys. At least now I have a few avenues to check out in determining what's going on. Does backfire ever sound like it's coming from under the hood? I've never actually been around it before, so I'm just not sure. I do know that the sound is much more pronounced with the top up, which leads me to believe even more that it's probably not a backfire

 

Check the turbo, see if there is any shaft play.
