Default Vortech V2 Si Build Diary

Long time F/I lurking and would occasionally try to help with some easier questions. I had a 2002 AP1 a few years ago with a Greddy Turbo kit, the turbo blew almost immediately and the frustration got to me so I sold everything. Fast forward to today and I have another s2000, this time an AP2. I wanted to try a supercharger this time and nearly pulled the trigger on the Kraftwerks kit, but held off and I'm glad I did.

The car it's going on:

I found a local (thanks Manny) selling a pieced together Vortech kit. The parts are as follows:

Vortech V2 Si (the mirror image of a Novi 1200) blower unit with aftercooler
3.33 Inch pulley (odd size, it's what Vortech sent with the new blower), I have a 3.8in as well, but am going to try the 3.33
6in Vortech Crank Pulley
MercRacing Heat Exchanger
Bosch Water Pump
ID 1000 injectors
Hondata 4 Bar Map sensor
FB340 Fuel Pump
AEM EMS v2

Parts already on the car:
Invidia Q300 Dual (Debating going back to stock)
Sourcing a 70mm TP now

Going to run pump gas, then eventually E85 when I want more power. By my calculation, I should be about 15psi with the 3.33in pulley.

I did a mock assembly of the entire mounting system on my work bench to assure I had all of the hardware and pieces I needed.

I'm glad I did as I was missing a couple pieces of critical hardware, so I'm waiting on those to come in as well as a couple other random things like couplers and the intake filter.

I'm going to use this as kind of my build diary. It will take some time and I'm going to try and document as much as possible.

Right now, I only have the car up on jackstands and the bumper removed. Some steps I plan on doing while waiting on the hardware will be removing the air pump and figuring out how to mount the heat exchanger.

Thanks for following along!

I won't be making gobs of torque, so I'm going to see if the stock will hold up. If not, I'll go with the Stock disc with ACT PP

Stock clutch will not hold. When I made 350+whp it did not hold that...was only 5800mi on the car at that time...we only found that out because we were waiting on the new one to arrive... So we tried it out...slipped badly.

Stock won't hold. It will slip in higher gears. When I had 370 whp with the original kW kit I slipped all the time. And trust me it's a bigger pain to do it later.

Also don't go with a stock disc w/ act pp. if your gonna spend the money go a better disc and PP, not just a PP.

This is good to know, thanks! Not sure what clutch I'll do then. I've done the whole 6-puck business before and hated it.

I made a little more progress while waiting on the hardware, looks like it won't be here until the end of the week.

Trying to figure out how I should mount this heat exchanger. This thing came with everything as a package so I figure I'll use it. It's a bit too tall for my liking and not thick enough, but we'll see how it does.

Thinking I'll try to use the two holes from the AP2 support bar (not crash bar)

I got the pump temporarily mounted. I think I'll end up fabbing a simple bracket to run it horizontal to avoid too many 90 degree turns in the hose plumping

Got the air pump system and air intake taken out.

Today I may try to tackle the crank pulley and/or work on mounting the HE

I was pretty much under this impression as well. I had it on my AP1 and will do it on this too

you won't need any puck clutches. Go with the SOS sport clutch. It'll hold fine. I have the old clutch masters stage 3 which i love, but i think the company/design changed.
