yea most of what i was talking about was in conjunction with piggy back systems. i wasn't necessarily disagreeing with what you were talking about- i just think the piggy back system is more of a problem for most people getting into these newer turbo systems. the tubular vs log thing and good tuning stuff comes after that

If you're really set on getting rid of vtec, Toda makes a vtec killer camshaft so there is no vtec.

[QUOTE=timg,Aug 1 2008, 05:55 PM]That's a bad idea...

The only time VTEC engagement loses power is with log style turbo manifolds and restrictive exhaust setups.

Not always. From what i've seen there can be minimal, if any, gains from lowering the engagement point. It depends on the setup and what the car is tuned for.

Definately disagree. Every vtec dip problem i've seen is a result from the ECU pulling tons of timing at the engagement point - thats what my car did with the emanage ultimate!

Lowering vtec down to 4k and adjusting timing from 4k to 6K

(when tricking the stock computer in to vtec sooner than factory settings with a piggy back)
The timing map is not switched over. You must know how to use your piggy back effectively to take advantage of a lower vtec point.

On the MP62 supercharger kit by moving vtec down to 4k and making the appropriate timing adjustments I am hitting 220wtq just after the switch over and it holding constant at 220 until about 7k. Dropping to just about 207 to 212 at ign cut.

I think you have to do two tunes, one run with the VTEC enabled almost over the whole bandwith, one run without the VTEC enabled at all. Where the two curves meet is the individual optimale point for that car with that setup, as with every tune it can be different from car to car, right?

Also, you would enable VTEC only in conditions of say more then 80% of throttle position, to prevent gas consuming whilst cruising on the highway.

Just my two cents,

Andreas
