Default vtec limp mode?

Hello,

So I was driving one day and decided to do a little pull just to have my car fall on its face as soon as i hit 6k rpm, i open my hood and found my vtec solenoid plug had melted. so i replaced it, and put a protective heat sleeve on it. i go for a drive and do a pull and it’s still falling on its face at 6k. my friend said it’s in limp mode, and should take it to my tuner. i assume it’s just something i could do myself if that’s all it is? anyone have any insight on this? is it as simple as turning it off on the computer? i have kpro btw. thanks for your help in advance

Even if your VTEC solenoid is new are we positive the wiring is fine?

Plugin PC into the ECU and fire up Hondata software and check:
1. Window tab > Error Codes - What do you see for DTCs & Codes? If nothing worrisome or it's just the VTEC solenoid one, then clear them and test drive.
A few others to check but I doubt these are your culprit unless you're over-boosting it's some sort of a protection setting:
2. VTEC tab - VTEC oil pressure switch is checked ON
3. Portection tab - Check protections settings

So I just checked, there were no error codes. i checked the vtec tab, and the oil pressure switch wasn’t checked. i checked it and then i got a check engine light for vtec system error. unchecked it and it went away. There was nothing in the protection tab.

Can you data log and share? Just in case watch your boost too. I’m guessing you’re turbo by your power #s.

There are are a few folks on here that charge for remote “analysis” and tuning. Might be worth a shot if going back to your tuner is too difficult.

Check your oil level too? What about oil pressure?

I still think checking/testing the wire harness end/plug that connects to Vtec solenoid is a good idea.

I’ll pray for you that it’s not low oil pressure as mine was.

I honestly don't know how to use kmanager in the least bit, so I don't know how to share my datalogs. I ended up going to my tuner, he updated my firmware and it worked fine, he doesn't know what it is, but I'm just happy it's working again, lol.
