Thumbs down Walbro fuel pump whine

Once in a while, i hear a loud, high-pitched whine/hum coming from behind my seat. i'm 99% sure it's the fuel pump. it really doesn't correlate to how fast/hard i've been driving. the noise randomly comes and goes. there is no change in power or responsiveness, or any other aspect of the way the car drives...it is just a noise. some people say the whining from the Walbro fuel pump is normal. i want to verify that this is true. i really don't want to get stranded one day from my fuel pump failing me. what is the problem? is there a problem?

note: i did not change the fuel filter thingy at the bottom of the pump when i switched my oem pump to the walbro. could this have made a difference?

edit: i just realized that it happens more often when i'm near the end of my tank...but since i JUST thought about it, i haven't been able to verify whether this is always the case.

any help is much appreciated.
thank you!

mine too....started one scorching hot day on the way to vegas and never stopped.... after 6 months it actually got quieter.

empty tank = louder always
hot day = louder in general
fueling up w/ cool fuel = suddenly quieter

Normal.

Mine is the same way. Definately louder when tank is empty. I guess the gas in the tank quites it down.

I am also having a different whine. I have a whine right behind my seat (fuel pump?) that I only hear when I am at around 2K RPMs and am off throttle. It almost sounds like an exhaust drone, but really high pitched. I wonder if that could be my Berk HFC, because I have the stock exhaust. Anyone else have anything like that?

RichV, it sounds liek the softtop plastic tray is your issue.

to all the rest, thanks. this has reassured me and now i'm not worrying about needing to change my fuel pump!

With no interior between me and the tank, it sings to me all the time.

It doesn't sound like the tray is vibrating though. It sounds mechanical, not just an interior vibration, but i rarely hear it and it doesn't really bother me. Just a little strange.
