Maybe I'll try it out. Next weekend I'm going from 6psi to 7 psi (swapping 4.25" for 4.0"). So while I'm doing that, I'm going to try removing the waste gate and inspecting it. I'm also going to do more research on the part number, and try contacting the manufacturer and try to determine what PSi it maxs at, and if I can adjust that without a boost controller. I'm a noob to forced induction, so a lot of this stuff if new to me.

So after a little more googling, I'm finding that setting this up may be easier than I thought.

http://www.phantasmusa.com/t10101.html

This site says "With the addition of a Variable Boost Control Regulator (PN 10402) the Deltagate is fully adjustable over a wide boost range."

So I'd need the VBC to adjust max boost.

Googling that part number, I find this

http://www.turbocharged.com/catalog/wastegate.html

Which shows that I can buy different internal springs, and the boost controller. Not sure what the prices are, I'll have to email or call them soon.

HPFreaks sell the VBC
http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/partdetail...ulator_Kit/3396

~$100

Hmmmm, this is actually starting to sound like a good idea.

I'm wondering though, is it possible to maintain safe A/F numbers if I'm pushing consistent ~7psi from ~4-5k rpm to redline? Without an EMS/tune; just using the Comptech FPR and my wideband?

just get a spring that is the highest boost you wanna run. then slap on the 3.0 pulley and the spring will be the highest boost you run no matter what the pulley says.

only thing that would suck is if the wastegate is a shit one then it will open early and this will be FAIL.

what kinda gate is on there now?

Even with the large pully this is not a good idea. I would save your money and buy and EMS and some 750cc injectors (Or larger) befor you are forced to spend that money on something else like a block resleeve.

The Variable Boost Control Regulator is just a better way of saying a manual boost controller. Typiccly a wastegate only have a few options for springs, so you use a boost controller, to increase the amount of boost you need from the spring pressure on the wastegate, among other things.

Based on the pictures and the link it is a Turbonetics (10101) - Deltagate with a 32mm valve.

throw that shit in the trash and get a different gate on there. the mounting flange hopefully is universal. i had great success with a , dont laugh, tial "style" gate. with a 9psi spring in it boost would shoot right to 9 and stay. thing worked perfect.

I'm curious why this would be a bad idea? If I can have max boost fixed at ~7psi (which is safe with the stock comptech FPR/injectors), and if it's possible to maintain safe A/F numbers, what can go wrong? I'm really just curious at this point if it's possible to keep safe A/F with pushing on constant 7psi across 4000 rpms, just with the FPR/wideband.

I'm going high boost/ems/tune/injector later this year, but if I can do this in the meantime, for ~$200, why not?

Also, if I do end up running a wastegate, would I want to disconnect the bypass valve and hose, that feeds back to intake?

Is this a low quality waste gate?

Also, did you run a waste gate on a SC set up? If so, please tell me the details!
friend had that gate on his b18c turbo'd crx. it would open early and cuase slow spool. and it would creep bad in cold weather. just didnt work well.

but i had tial style on my turbo hatch h22 and it worked spot on.

but, gettin ahead of myself here. try it first and see what happens. i just had bad time with them, doesnt mean they all sucked.

Lol whatever you do don't buy that VBC from HPF. $100? Lol it's a manual boost controller, aka $5 worth of parts. Find the cheapest MBC you can, it's the same thing.

Honestly what you need to do is unbolt that wastegate for a few moments, throw a pressure source on the vacuum/pressure nipple on it (like if you have a small air compressor or buddy with one) and find out at what PSI the wastegate cracks open. That will tell you if you have a 6psi spring, 8psi, etc.

Also, remember that a boost controller can only RAISE the boost from whatever your spring is, it cannot lower it. So definitely find out what spring your wastegate has already before dropping any money ($5 or $100) on a boost controller.
