Default What's the difference - Turbos

One turbo has got holes around the intake, one hasn't. What do they do?

They Prevent Compressor surge which happens when the air backs up in the intake. Some companies offer these anti surge ports on there compressor covers to help alievate some of the back pressure that is produced when the turbo is still spinning even when you let off the throttle. This air hits the throttle body which is usally closed when you let of the throttle and comes back to the compressor.

Most of the time the bov takes care of this problem but on larger size turbos the bov dosen't get a chance to fully dispell the returning pressure, which can hit the compressor wheel and cause wear and tear on the wheel, shaft and bearings a lot faster.

Basically the ports on the turbos housing gives the surging air another route to exit, which will make it last longer.

I am using anti surge ports on my Precision PT6776RH
