Default Wideband O2 Sensor question

Hello everyone,

I was about to install a wideband into my car to watch AFR's when I noticed on the package it said to always have the wideband o2 reader plugged in while the car is on. Now my wideband is connected to a big box and I dont always want that plugged into the cigarette lighter. Any reason why they say damage will occur to the o2 sensor if the wideband is not always plugged in?

Thanks,

Shuluke

It needs to be on (hot) or the exhaust gas will kill it within 1000 miles. Was told this by my tuner. Just hard wire it in.

Wideband sensors require a temperature of at least 300 degrees Celcius to work and become contaminated with gunk if not hot.
