Some people have turned them into functional brake cooling ducts.

Those things are NOT covers. They are part of the front bumper that are simply painted a different color. To "remove" them, you need to cut them out. A knife is a VERY crude way to do it. Most people who do this use a Dremel tool.

Yeah don't use a knife... you'll just cut yourself or the car all up. Use a Dremel. Take the bumper off to do it correctly, but if you have a steady hand you can do it on the car. I would also second the idea of getting a set of grilles for those before you cut them out so you'll know what part to leave still on so you can screw them to.

I did it and it looks good... I'll post pics later. I'm lazy rightnow. (Edited)

I left the bumper on cause I'm smooth with the tools.

I used a drill, then short blade saw, then a dremmel, then a lighter to smooth the plastic. The lighter smooths the black plastic.
Extreme close up.

There ya go...

I got the tubing but haven't had time to install it. It will eventually direct air up the SC intake.

The cut in the splash guard is from the old CAI.

HOLY HELL CHIUNG! Did you use your teeth?!

the easist way is to remove your bumper and cut it with a dremel from the inside.
