BMC CDA Intake DIY
disclaimer: We all have our own opinions when it comes to intakes. Some of us don't care if we gain 4hp or lose 4hp - losing couple pounds of weight is more important. I think alot of you will like this one. (I DO NOT WORK FOR BMC, I AM NOT SPONSORED BY BMC, I DO NOT HAVE ANY BUSINESS CONNECTION WITH BMC)
I only buy jdm parts if it's only made in Japan and IF it seems like the BEST quality & provides the most convenient installation & dismembering. Alot of the new intakes hitting the market seem a bit shady with the numbers and alot of the information is misleading and made up by groupies who are just die-hard fans. I like building custom stuff anyways, so I decided to stay away from the usual.
I'm doing alot of writing, but it's for the good for alot of you who can't decide which intake to get. There's alot of confusion about which intake to buy. There's AEM, Injen, Fujita, PWJDM, Gruppe-M, Podio Racing, ASM, J's Racing, Mugen, etc. Research & Development really isn't Research & Development these days - it doesn't really matter how big or expensive the company is, an intake really is just an intake when it comes to our normal-people driving skills. So with that in mind, I decided to stay away from all the companies that are big in the professional racing scene & those who use very little carbon material to create an intake that costs about $2g + shipping + wait time.
In exchange, you can spend small portions of that cash to build a full intake system that will give you alot more options, no metal fabrication, no cutting the oem fender liner, etc. and most importantly, more engine bay space to work around more efficient cooling options.
The BMC intake box clears up alot of space, is VERY VERY VERY lightweight, and has been directly used in the earlier 21st century lemans. It's not the fact that it's been researched & developed that attracts me. But the fact that many lemans team relied on this intake is some good info to stand behind.
Anyways, to those who are interested, here are what you need to buy:
BMC Intake Box CDA85-150 for above 1600cc
3.25'' to 2.75'' transition coupler
2.75'' 45 degree coupler
90 degree mandrel bend pipe (aluminum / titanium / carbon fiber - direct from China)
2 extra silicone hose clapms (BMC provides you with 2 of their own)

Props for doing and documenting this project. I know you mentioned your take on high dollar intakes, along with others that have their "claims" and R&D, but i guess i am one of those people who cares about what a product is doing for the engine. Can you give any feedback on feel or power benefits?

very nice looking intake. might work better with the samco replacement hose for the stock intake as it has the holes for all the lines that need to connect to the intake. any more information on it?
