FWIW, The cops had every right to destroy the car. The Italian local police are pretty adamant these days about enforcing Italian products. Last time I checked, Ferrari was from Italy.
The knock-off handbag, wallet, and sunglasses guys were always scanning the horizon for the (police's) white or blue hats/helmets. If you got caught selling the stuff, you were going to jail (at least overnight). . . The real kicker though, was $12K infraction per item if you were caught buying it.
. . . just imagine what would happen with a knockoff automobile.
