Then again, you can always do what I did and retire from the military, so when they stop you and ask for ID, I give 'em my card along with license and proof of insurance and it usually means bs'ing with 'em for 5 minutes.

How about installing it behind the grill?

In Mass we need a front plate, too. Most people with S2000s don't even bother to put it on the front. We have our under our front seat. If a cop ever pulls us over, we'll just say the bracket is broken (for all the cops here: it really is ).

I have my tag in the front grill just like that but I cut my tag smaller so it wouldnt be so big and block the radiator. Havent overheated yet!

For everybody's information, that's a JDM S2000, and license plate placements like that are exceedingly common.

I'm thinking that after all the input about overheating, I'm going to do two things: #1 Cut back the outer frame of the black plastic license plate frame and #2 Think about making new brackets that stick out farther.
#1 will make the whole apparatus about 1/2-3/4" narrower and thinner, and #2 will allow a wider channel for air to flow around the plate.
The whole impetus of this project was to minimally alter the car and to avoid problems with cops, but I think I'll end up buying a new bracket to restore it.
