there are dudes here running 255 up front, lowered and on stock fenders who haven't seen this before.

and if it was from rubbing, my question is just why one tire?
Just because member "x" has 255s in the front on stock fenders on "x" wheels, doesn't mean someone lowered on stock wheels can't rub (not that you are on stock wheels). It could be that you go up a driveway a certain way that it just hits one tire. It could also be that maybe you hit a certain bump or pothole on your certain "regular" route in such a way that only the front rubs. Did you roll or pull your fenders? Did they bend up or have any damage from rubbing?

did you buy the wheels and tires new?

That could have turned out very badly, if you had not discovered that!

I shudder, when I think of what that might have turned into.

I'm gonna go check mine right now.

I saw an article with tires that were 9 years old simply blowing apart.

check your inside fender wall.
your tires maybe touching your fener liner clip area.

these are clear cuts, a tire will never be like this from itself

I had almost teh same cuts on mine, on my car, the cuts came from the center metal clip which usually holds the fender in place

thank you (although, I'm not too sure about the "never" part)

I say they are from rubbing because I had the same problems with my tires. When the fender lip gets bent out, it is very easy to slice and cut pieces of tire off. It is damage from rubbing.

once again, these are cuts
have nothing to do with temperature or whatever

looking at the low offset and low camber he is running, I am pretty sure the tyre touched the center clip while going up or down a ramp while not beeing aligned to the ramp so this tires completely went into the fender.

Cause from looking at the pic it was a low speed.

Touching the inner fender clip at high speed looks different.

also cut but more on not as deep cuts.

Trust me I am pretty experienced with cutting my front tyres like that

18x8 ET45 with 225 tyres and only 1.2 deg camber an lowered pretty well (street car)

My driveway is fine and my fenders are not damaged at all. From the first pic you can see that the car is far from being even considered low.

Why would i hit the same pothole on a "regular" basis?

And yes, the tires were purchased new from tirerack.

The wheels were purchased new as well.

That is a cut from the fender. Notice how the cut is angled up, that is because this happened when the OP (or whoever owned the tire before) went up a driveway (or something similar) with the wheels turned and it dug into the fender lip causing it to get cut.
