Default Hinged Front Licence Holder

Hey does anyone have pictures of the front hinged license plate holder. it all the rage in Japan. VERY VERY JDM. C-West has one. I going to try to dl some pics and post them. For those who don't know how it works, it like this. It holds your front license holder on an angle so that when you drive fast the wind presses the plate complete flat where the license normally placed. So you cant get photo radared. When you stop, the wind stops and your plate returns to normal.
Any one have this on their car? Know if it legal? In US? In Canada where I am?

Thank@

I was thinking about this too. I didn't realize that they actually 'flapped' in the wind. I just thought it was a simple hinge. I was going to head to home depot to try and make myself one Doesn't look like it'd be that hard.

photo radar......the newest rage here is the plastic covering type. the covering only allows ppl to see your plates when they're behind your car. stray too far to the sides and "poof", the license looks blank! i saw one the other week and i thought it was awesome. i was about 10ft behind the truck and saw the plate perfectly. when i stepped about 4 ft to the side, the plate turned all white. it's been all over the news here, b/c the cameras can't pick them up. i need to get one. heard they were a bit pricey, but hey, it's worth it!!!

I had a similar idea for our S2K's. Instead of a rotating flap design, why not a springed hinge at the bottom of the plate mounted to the inside part of the cowling (inside the mouth of the S).

When wind pushes on it, the hinge closes, effectively folding the plate down. When stopped the spring on the hinge is just strong enough to open, and flips the plate up.

Old hat in the Miata world since the plate blocks too much airflow and can cause overheating. A spring mount allows the air to reach the radiator once underway. Clearance is usually the mounting problem.. US plates are large.

A quick search on this board found the following threads (among many others), with links to the Miata boards on how to build a hinged front plate holder.
