Front license plate alternative. Maybe.
So I've been thinking... Wouldn't it be possible to get one of those magnetic signs that some pizza delivery cars have on their doors, for example, and get one printed up with your license plate number and design? Slap it on the hood and take off the front license plate (or keep it in the trunk until a cop pulls you over). In theory you should satisfy all legal requirements, right?
Of course the magnet needs to be strong enough so it doesn't fly off when you go 56 mph (nobody's going any faster, right?), but somehow I can't see that being a problem.
What do you guys think?

Illegal in NJ. I was on the NJ DMV site today and they mentioned that the state issued plate has to be displayed between 12" and 48" of the ground and not be covered by anything. I am planning on making a BYS type bracket and tilting tilting the front plate.
A magnet would not work since the front bumper is plastic and the hood is aluminium. I have thought about making a sticker version of my plate if I get hassled by The Man for not sporting a front plate. I don't see where there would be much for the gendarme to complain about as long as it was made out of the same material as the original.
I removed my front plate a few months ago, I've had really no problem with getting pulled over. I did get one ticket for it, but I'm pretty sure the guy pulled me over for speeding and not the plate. He gave me the no front plate ticket instead of a speeding ticket to be nice. My consensus is that the front plate things is too minor for them to waste their time on. Now, if you get pulled over for something else and he notices then that's a different story.

Here in Texas, it's not illegal to remove your front plate. The problem is, it's a new law and some policemen are still pulling people over for it. I think it kind of depends where (and how old) you are. I saw a guy the other day that had put suction cup in the mounting holes and he stuck the plate inside the windshield. I would probably get pulled over for obstructing my windshield, if I did that. Anyway, it's an idea.
Me and a friend use to run a shop that tinted cars and went tinted them beyond the legal percentage...anyway when cops pull you over we would get tickets and then how to show up in court with our car with out the tint and that was it...not fines...same thing goes with broken tail lights..as long as you replace them and show the prove the ticket gets thrown away. Can't you do the same with the license plate and just explain that the brackets broke and you haven't had time to fix it?
This may not work if you get pulled over by the same cop twice
