I'm with Version, the FD3S is a perfectly balanced platform with a lot of tunability. The LS V8's make it just that much better. Give me an RE Amemiya wide body FD with LS7 and lots of wheel and tire, I'm a very happy camper!!

imagine a car like that on laguna seca or suzuka. fun, would be an understatment.

Its like a cat opening its mouth and you hear a dog barking. It looks like a cat... but don't sound like one. Same thing here... no doubt while revving is has a good sound.... but it just doesn't seem right to hear THAT noise from THAT car... ya know....

Mind if I ask what exactly is wrong with these renisis engines that you are replacing? I just cant for the life of me seeing a lower milage N/A rotary chucking a seal for no reason.

Did anyone mention the LS's probably get better gas mileage!! In all seriousness, I would take an FD3S with the 13B or LS. I'd prefer the LS for it's obvious superiority. If Chevy had made the Corvette better looking, lighter and smaller, it would have made this car.

Just not sure of my vanity tag would read "RX7 Z06" or not?

Rotaries are badass when they are properly maintained; it's a real shame they are and will forever be affiliated with the stigma just simply because nobody understood how to properly maintain a 13B until many, many years later.

This engine was definitely YEARS ahead of its time...there were so many stock emissions BS parts associated with the engine to allow the car to pass emissions and to stay under the horsepower standard in Japan when it first came out, all of which contributed to the overheating, boosting, and oil burning problems associated with the 13B.

When they are running great, they're absolutely a pure joy to drive. But it's sad for me to say that that rarely happens.

Awesome N/A 3-rotor FD domination vid that revs to 10,000 rpm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpF2-IrSGWY

And a similarly badass 3-rotor 600 hp turbo FC for sale in our local forum here:

I will say this though...rotaries sound like shit, whether they are working or on the edge of blowing another apex seal.

they have to, rotary motor and emission doesn't mix(and gas mileage), the temp of the rotary is extremely sensitive, you have to eyeing the gauge or you'll put the seal to hell.

the cooling system is also undersized to be honest, mazda did the weight saving stuff too far for the 7.

consider it's the only major mfg putting rotary into mass production, mazda's doing great job on the motor, you just don't drive the rotary like a normal motor, some people never get the idea why.

it's the same idea of 2jz s2k, some people will never understand why.

You might need your head examined for such a statement:

The LS1 is a badass motor, but it will never, ever, ever sound like this!

uhh yeah those are pure hardcore le mans race motors, not your average street 13 or 20B

all the 2-rotor and 3-rotor engines i've heard have always had this obnoxious buzzing noise that sounds like the furthest thing from those le mans race cars

watch the Tsukuba 10,000 rpms battle vid and listen to the 3-rotor FD that Tsuchiya drives and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about
