Ah the Elise.....

One of my friends has one in Silver. It is a superb car, but after less than a year of owning it he is selling, why?
Simple really, it is not an everyday car, getting in and out is awkward, the lack of everything is annoying him now, the fiddily roof, no carpet, no stereo etc etc

On the plus side, it is the best car he has ever owned, driving it brings a smile to his face everytime - sounds familiar I have driven it a couple of times and it is fantastic, superb handling

As someone said previous if you can live without these things, or it is a weekend car then this is the car for you. If you have to drive it everyday? Not for me, need the extras

The changes they have just made to the styling have made the car much nicer IMO, as for what changes they make when it comes over to you guys, not sure, there was great debate due to the tough market place over there ie it MUST have a/c, carpets, stereo etc. Also it will not have the Rover engine as it does not meet the emissions standards, I think I heard rumour it will have the same engine as the Vauxhall VX220 - not sure though.

Thanks for the info Cedric, Anthony. Saxman, any idea where I can find a user friendly site to tell me more about the Elise? Like, what year it started production, models, etc.? I did some searching yesterday and got very confused, I can't tell the difference between them other than a MKI and a MKII, but I do know that the 111S I posted a pic of is the one I like, the new Type 72 looks a bit like some sort of insect to me...lol. I prefer the smoother lines of the old Elise.

I'd read the rumors of the Elise coming to the US, even saw the blue Elise concept in one of the big car mags, the lines were so simplified...totally elegant...but it was just a concept. Maybe I'll start looking for a used F20C so that when the car is released over here I can give it my favorite heart transplant!

Wish I could drive one to be certain...ah well.

Hey Cedric, forgive me, but to which forum exactly is it that you refer? Got a link?

Thanks again guys...

Andrew

Andrew:

If you click on 'Forums' at the top, then scroll down you'll see U.K. S2000 owners which is where us Limeys all live!

I'll try and find you a link to the Elise Owners Club which is the obvious place to get your questions answered.

Club Lotus.

I don't think they're as easy to live with as the s2k. I saw two guys (early 20's) pull into the supermarket car park. I was admiring the Elise when the drivers door opened and the driver just rolled out into the car park, I think he thought it was the easiest way to exit.

Thanks for the info Cedric, Peter (and the cool pix), I just want to drive one so bad...

I wonder, if they bring it to the US, add carpet, a few amenities, 5MPH bumpers, etc., it may still come in at under 2,000lbs or thereabouts. With a 200HP engine it should still out accelerate, out brake, out handle, and generally thrash the sports car population thoroughly by virtue of the total vehicle weight, and HP per LB ratio. Hmmm...maybe I'm wrong.

Still, I can't help dreaming about the Sun Elise 111S with it's promises of go-kart heaven...lol.

My daughter's name is Elise, so now of course she wants to have an Elise. It will be a few years before she gets a drivers license......and many more years before she can buy her own Elise.

There was an Elise at the Minneapolis 2002 Auto Show. Sadly it was locked and no one seemed to know anything about it.

here come pics as promised....
ok, I lied, the elise looks best in silver

also looks amazing in cobalt blue

the whole entry problem is somewhat solved in a top that opens with the door(the entire hardtop is also removable)

gunmetal is also an amazing color(as I earlier stated)... please ignore the tiger striped elise in the background... I don't know WTF they were thinking with that
