if their goal is to minimize accidents, then remove all unneeded gizmos and gadgets from the car and FORCE the driver to to be attentive.

i turned off VSA every time i drive my S not because i think i'm a baddass driver but because knowing that the safety net is gone, forced me to drive sanely.

Some people are oblivious because they just have bad judgement. Taking off the safety features isn't going to make them safer because they don't realize they're being unsafe.
I was in that! Thats at one of Toyota's test facilities in Japan. The graphics on the 360 projection weren't as realistic as they look on the commercial, though. The sensation in the car is very realistic and you really feel the g forces working on you. An engineer drove, but it was still an awesome experience.
