Roll Bars
One of the major problems for making the SSM into a production car was those great looking lights so low in the fascia. I agree the S2000 is very close but the longer slopping hood with the badge in the grille and those lights just get to me!
When HONDA released the first CRX they had major problems and laws needed to be changed because the CRX had its headlights too low to the ground. There are rules about minimum headlight height from the road, but I for one don't like to bring this up much. (I still own a 2" slammed CRX-Si. If it was legal when new, it ain't any more!
)
I do agree, most companies wow with the concept, and then bring it back to reality when the engineers get involved for production reasons. Now I hope I don't get flamed too bad (hey I don't have one in my driveway) but Chrysler IMHO is the car company that has done more wild concepts that resulted in production cars that were almost as wild.

the front end is a little rounder in production,
alot more sharp edges in the concept,
the honda emblem is in the grill,
the car overall looks a little bit bigger in the concept,
the rollbars look awesome,
rims are bigger and nicer
Im not putting down the S2K in anyway. I love my car. Im just saying , why do car companies design futuristic looking concepts and then decide to go conservative when it comes to production.
