You get the "shiney effect" on powdercoat by polishing the metal before you have it powdercoat and using a translucent powder.
I see. Do most good powder-coating places do this for you? Or is it extra charge? If extra.... a lot? =X

There is an extra charge for candy/chrome powders, but its very low. Maybe 20 bucks for a set of 4 rims.

If you want, i can get you a list of powders to can tell the shop you want.....ask around....I know my powdercoat.

I believe you.

But do you know of a site where I could see samples of a bunch of final colors?

when you get your wheels powdercoated ask for the gloss finish
That's what I did.

They're shiny ... when they're clean

Does your list include places in Socal?
I called a bunch of places that do Black chrome/black nickel plating and they all said that the finish wouldnt last on a daily driven car. I then found out that its better to get the wheel chrome plated with a translucent black tint powdercoated on top of it. I hant been able to find a legitimate black chrome by powdercoat at this point.

Powdercoating and plating have nothing to do with each other, its a totally different process. He was correct that nickel plating wont last, but thats not powdercoating. Powdercoating is the most durable coating you can put on a rim.

I am going to powdercoat my GC07C's during my next tire swap. I am going to change them from the british black finish to a glossy black finish. the british black doesnt offset the silverstone color enough to my liking. i'll be sure to post pics, might be a year or so til i have to change my tires...
